Flood's gamble to play out this weekend

I feel like flood kept Laviano the starter at all costs the last 3 games in order to give him more game experience for these last three games which he views as winnable. This weekend will show if his gamble worked and it will be interesting to see what he does if Laviano has another performance like the last few.

If memory serves, he played better in the N game last year than his last 3 this year, so maybe he will have a decent game.

I'd worry more about if the last 3 games have taught the defense anything. Because this is what we're walking into:

NEBRASKA ranks nationally
Pass Play %: #36
Passes/Game: #30
Pass yards/Gm: #26
QB sacked %: #12
3D conversion: #24
Points/Game: #31
Yds/Game: #30
Points/play: #33

These guys pass a lot, and have passed a lot on much better defenses.

Great that Flood gambles with the RU program to achieve his personal goals of a 500 or winning season to keep employed.

Yep, if they forget about establishing the run and do the hurry up 2 minute drill all game we are hosed. However, they should be looking ahead to Iowa and let us score some points, too.

No chance they're looking ahead they have to win out right now.

They must win out.as do we. The difference is that Nebraska wants to win out. Flood just wants to get his QB some extra reps in another blowout.

Flood thinks his job is super safe. Just like he thought he did nothing wrong before the report was released.

Nebraska has a bye after our game. No way they are looking past us to a game that comes after a bye.

Put up or shut up time for our guys. We have a bowl bid to play for, too. Keep chopping!

IMHO the "differences" are the following:

- they're not getting hammered, and looking completely lost, in games

-with a new HC and systems most teams struggle year 1

- they're HUNGRY. After losing 4 games on the final drive, 2 by "Hail Mary" plays, and a game in which you rolled up yardage and points but couldn't stop turning the ball over, but finally reversing the trend to give you life, is a HUGE advantage over where we are now IMHO.

Advantage: Huskers.

Nebraska should probably have 6 or 7 wins. If RU's coaches trot out the same play calling excrement on both sides of the ball that we've seen the last 3 weeks, this game will be over in the 2nd quarter. Nebraska's coaches are going to gameplan to win, not just to avoid getting shut out.

I'd have felt better if they hadn't just beat Michigan State.....

I think he keeps him out there because he is mobile.

What percentage of pass plays does the RU QB get 3 seconds before he has a pass rusher on him?

The advantage for RU is that Nebraska is focused on going 3-0 to clinch a bowl birth while were focused on going 1-0 3 times.

Im assuming this is obvious - but we werent winning any of those last three with Rettig in their either.

People are really just crazy to think that there is much Flood or anyone else could do with this team to have a significantly different record. Our defense is bad - bad enough that its not just coaching. Our offense is bad. Again - to the point where its clearly not just coaching.

Flood should go because hes not a great coach or recruiter - but its funny seeing people getting all worked up about it. Theres a reason people had us at 3-4 win before the season and its playing out - we dont have alot of depth or talent.

Just like every other coach on the planet.

Don't agree with that. In our case, it is more transparent and egregious than where somewhat aligned. here it has all been about proving he is right and engineering a plausible reason to be retained.
