Floyd County was shut out by Graham 3 td's to zero. Floyd managed probably about 20 yards of offense against Graham for the entire 20 plays that they had the ball. Cave Spring beat them 2 scores to 0. They fared a little better against Cave Spring, completed a couple of passes and had a couple of runs for about 10 yards or so. Defensively, they made some good plays, but they don't have much team speed and they are very young. It will be a couple more seasons before they will be competitive. A friend of mine at the scrimmage told me that Floyd had about 18 freshmen on the roster, which is good for the future. Going to be a long season for the Buffaloes. If they win more than 3 games, I will be very surprised.
Floyd is well coached. They just haven't had much of a talent pool. A lot of young guys will be playing this year, they will gain valuable experience, but are probably a couple of years away from having a good season. They lack speed. Just a couple of kids with speed would make a big difference for Floyd.
That is a pleasant surprise. Graham shut out Glenvar and Gate City as well in their most recent jamboree. Graham looks very good. May be hope for Floyd after all.
Hope Floyd has a great year. Beat a 4a team, but honestly, Bassett may be worst than Carroll as far as 4a teams.
And we have Carroll this week... But seriously, these guys need to remember what it feels like to win and build on it. I hope for the boys and for Coach Beale that they can put together a good season.
