I stated in a recap thread that the parents of GW were blown away by how nice the families of Auburn were as hosts. So many nice comments coming and going. Wishing us luck and safe travels home moved some of our parents to post on Facebook and elsewhere their positive experience.

Now this morning a mother reports that her trip to the Rockford hospital to check on our player that suffered a collapsed lung was met by numerous Auburn families there for the same reason. Auburn families going out of their way after a tough, season ending loss visiting the hospital in support of an opposing player shows what a fantastic community they have out there.

Cheers to the families of Auburn. You have something very special.

Capnbill, thanks for mentioning this. That is really what community is all about. There is something good going on in Rockford Auburn, like you said, for sure. Also, having read your other post, it seems that you may have an active relationship with the GW player who was hurt. My thoughts go out to the player's family and the GW community, and I hope he has a full and quick recovery. I am really sorry to hear that.

He is a great kid and a school leader. I'm sure the boys will rally in his honor. Pretty sure they are allowing him to come back home today but the GW families appreciate your thoughts. Always hate to see a senior end his season by an injury. Yes it hurts when anyone gets hurt, but when they are likely the last games of your career, it is always very tough.

Quick update. Complications are keeping our player out in Rockford for a few more days until they stabilize him.

Hoping to report better news by end of week.

Very sad to hear about the player. Hopefully everything will be OK and he can live a normal life.

I would firmly expect to see Rockford Auburn get to the quarters from here on out in either 6A or 7A each year. Appino has his system in place and there is oodles of talent there. Hopefully, the kids learned what real 7A football looks liked against GW, and will take that into the off-season program for next year. Give them 5-10 years and I wouldn't be shocked to see then get to the finals a time or two...

Love hearing stories like this. This is why I love the game. So much more Han just being about football.

Major props to the Auburn family and prayers on a quick recovery to the young man from GBW.

So last update we had was Tuesday and our man was recovering from a collapsed lung still in Rockford.

The GW families received a picture of the card he had in his hospital room, signed by all the players and coaches of Auburn.

You just can't make stuff like that up. Cheers Auburn

Not sure why she needed to mention the background check part. Made me go back to see why it needed to be mentioned. It didn't.

Bottom line is that everyone in that school district can be proud of how the people within that program represent the community. Compete at a very high level, and when it is over, share a hug with your opponents and treat them like your home is their home.

I gush, but I was truly moved over the last six days.

Final note on our player. He was released today and is on his way home now. Last story is of the manager of a local restaurant bringing our player dinner even though his place doesn't deliver just so he could experience a local delicacy folks had mentioned. If you ever find yourself in Rockford, stop by Beef a Roo and tell the manager you are there because of their kindness. I plan to visit soon. Cheers

RA we hope not to dissapoint tomorrow. Thanks for your support. Your example inspires our boys to become great men. Good luck in your future years and you already have much more than any state title can bestow.
