• The NFL Network is going behind-the-scenes in training camp with a feature called "On the Fringe," following the attempts of five players fighting to make roster spots. Among them is Lance Long of Shelby Township with the Arizona Cardinals.</p>

Long, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound receiver, was among the Cardinals' final roster cuts last September, but he was signed to the practice squad and stayed there all season, including a trip to the Super Bowl. Not bad for a former walk-on at Mississippi State who had 46 catches in college.</p>

"I don't consider myself a long shot at all," Long told the network. "I feel like I have a very good shot at making the team."</p>

ran the reverse 46x and recovered a fumble(dropped by our own player of course....think it was threadgill) in the endzone for a TD.

One thing I loved about Lance Long was that you were guaranteed to get a spin move on every reception, whether it was unwarranted or completely unnecessary. If the guy caught the ball, you were getting it whether the defender was two or ten feet away.

if he sucked that bad, he wouldn't even be fighting for a roster spot, he'd be finding a real job. NFL teams don't waste time inviting people with no talent to camp.

I think he pulled that one out against LSU in 2006 when we were down approximately 99-0 at the end of the first quarter. All one could do was laugh. You would think that a coach would correct that, but then you realize that this staff thought Henig was the man at QB for the future. Obviously they weren't very perceptive.

Yes, I would take Lance Long right now in a heartbeat. If things continue progressing as they are now, we might be suiting up random students at WR, a la Necessary Roughness.

Prosser's true specialty was offensive pass interference. He's got to be the career record holder for MSU the SEC for that.

I blame Lance's 5 yard in on 4th and 6 on the coaching staff. Should've happened once, been corrected, and never seen again. But as you said, the same coaching staff saw a viable SEC quarterback in Mike Henig.

It's obvious that the Cards see something in him, or he wouldn't be there in the first place.

Rare were the instances where everything came together for a completed pass - the OL protecting Conner, Conner delivering the ball where it needed to be, Prosser actually catching it. Well, too often for my tastes, the guy would fumble it. We didn't have many sustained drives that year (or in the entire Croom error for that matter), but he killed several of them with bad turnovers.

which was deserved for the way he performed.

I will be truly pissed if he makes the team. Not for him. Good for him if he does.

But, it will show just how bad our coaching has been here

that even Lance Long can sniff a NFL roster. Based on his college performance, there is no way he should make it to the final cut like he did last year.

is the next Steve Tasker?

Special teams in the NFL is not a bad way to make a living. Ask Fred McAfee.
