I hate that he is a juco player because he will basically be a player that didn't get an opportunity because of Broomfield and Banks.

We've got to get this guy on the field. Slay (twitter @imthatniggaslay) is going to be a good performer this year. With Nickoe hurt and the rest of the safeties being young, we will use 3 cornerbacks on the field at times (Broomfield, Banks, and Slay). Banks said that the 3 corner lineup is his favorite.

He was asked about moving a corner to safety before the Spring and he said it was an option but he wouldn't do it in the Spring because the young guys needed the work there. Banks has made most of his picks when playing a center fielder role in a zone defense anyway. He was also our third leading tackler last year.

I made this point on 247 and JShort said I was wrong, so I must be right.

Hopefully Whitley will be back and 95-100%. I absolutely loved watching him play. If it was over the middle and he had some speed... watch out son. <div>
</div><div>Maybe not as much of a raw talent as Pegees, but definitely as much of an impact player.</div><div>
</div><div>I think Slay will be a valuable asset for rotation.</div><div>

</div><div>Anyone know if Redmond is being red-shirted this fall?</div>

I wish we'd put him on SP/T. He led NJCAA in return yards. Last time we put one of those back there it worked out pretty well for us. A lot better option than Lewis, who I'm not knocking, he just makes me nervous (fumbles).

With Banks, Broomfield, and Slay all being seniors, I expect Redmond to play. He needs a year to adjust to college ball (playing special teams and backup corner) before he becomes a potential starter in 2013.

but man, he is something special. Fast as lightning, can cut on a dime, can spin and bounce off tacklers, but has an issue holding onto the ball. He will get 1 or 2 returns this year, guaranteed.

He will be on the field a ton next year, he is too good to keep off. We will end up playing a lot of nickel just because of how good our 3 corners are. I wish they would just move Banks back to safety because our linebackers are going to be nasty and our safeties is a weak spot. If Autry is half as good as advertised our defense is going to be tough to deal with. <div id="myEventWatcherDiv" style="display:none;"></div>

that worked this look a lot while inside. I like this in passing situations, but I can't say I would be real stoked about having Broom at safety on 1st or 2nd downs.

because Broomfield is a heck of a tackler in the open field. He ranked 5th on the team in solo tackles behind Lawrence, Mitchell, Wilson, and Banks. Ahead of Bonner,Wells, Skinner, and Whitley.

His biggest weakness is his size. He's only about 175 lbs.sothat definetly limits him, but from a fundamental standpoint - he'sone of the better tacklers we have. I'm not sure what we'll have at safety this fall but I'm 100% sure he'd be better than having Louis Watson back there.

With that said - I seriously hope we can find someone better than Watson or Broomfield to put back there with Whitley (and have my fingers crossed Whitley is 100% by September).

Broomfield is a good player, he has made some huge picks over the years and I am not trying to put him down. He is just not physical enough to handle big receivers in one on one situations. For example, he gave up theearly TD against Auburn in 2010 on a bubble screen. He did the same thing later in the year against Bama, both plays resulted in long touchdown plays for our opponent(stuff happens, but both plays were simple bubble screens with an ISO blocking scheme from one of their receivers). He does not fight through blocks on the outside very well and a big receiver can stiff arm himand break a tacklefairly easily at times in one on one situations. That being said, I am definitely a fan of "Unc" Broomfield, I just prefer to see Slay on the field if I have to choose one or the other. I hope that we can find a way to put Nikoe, Banks, Slay, and Broomfield on the field at the same time though, our D should be nasty this year.

and anyone saying so doesn't understand the secondary very well. We could move Banks back there. After all, he started last year at safety and moved to corner. We could start with Whitley and Banks at safety with Broomfield and Slay at corner. Then if needed Banks can bump down to corner if we bring in another safety.

I don't know why but few things irritate me more than seeing people mention switching Broomfield to safety.

I think with the game today and the spread offenses you've got to have 3 guys back there that can cover. Ideally, I'd like to see 3 corners, asafety and a hybrid LB/SS. Which is pretty close to what you're saying.

I know, I know... it's a pre-spring depth chart & we expect Whitley to get back healthyto take that position over. Butseeing Watson (a guy with maybe 10 total tackles in 3 years) in bold print on that depth chart scares the piss out ofme.

I personally would like to see Wells at safety but that's obviously not in the coaches plans.

Any word on Thames - is he definitely supposed to be here this summer or fall?
