Congrats to him. I think he has been in the minors for some time, but maybe he can stick in the Big Leagues.

that he was in the Indians minor league system from 2000-2007. Fitting that he gets his chance and hits his bomb off the team that never called him up.

Good for him.

It's also good for him that J.D. Drew is barely being held together by Cortisone shots, band aids, bubble gum, and paper clips. Lots o' playin' time for Van Every.

Because he was a "trouble maker" and didn't like him. What a joke, I am glad to see he is doing well

If he really cut him because he thought he was a trouble maker, then that is a joke. I played baseball with him in high school, and he was as far from a trouble-maker as he could possibly be. He was the guy that never got into any trouble at all.

That's not true. He didn't make the team at NWR because whoever was the coach didn't think he was good enough. It had nothing to do with his attitude. He then transferred to UCS. I think it was his 9th or 10th grade year.

I played with him in summer league in college and he was a good guy and very reserved/quiet. Quite possibly the best white athletic baseball player I've every played with. He ran like a deer in the outfield. He refused to go to Hinds and told Rick Clarke that he wouldn't come. He finally got his release and went to Ittawamba. The guy had ZERO attitude problems and was a good teammate. If McClaskey cut him, he should be given his pink slip after first period this morning.

That's two days in a row he made sportscenter. I think his first brush with fame was on the play Manny made last year, when he high-fived the fan after a catch and threw the runner out. Van Avery was in CF - you can probably find it on youtube.</p>

with Anthony Cupps at Madison Central. Rumor was Rosamond cut him because he wasn't good enough, so he transfers to UCS, and ends up getting a scholarship to Ole Miss and drafted.

The magic of Doug Shanks.
