For Carroll against LaTech... what're acceptable numbers?..

I would think anything over 55 percent on the passes, preferably 200 yards or more, and no picks would be great.

I can't predict the pass attemts and such, but I say he pushes 300 yards (slightly below) with 2 TDs... I hope he doesn't throw an Interception, and that seems to be his strength but ya never know

much if we are pounding them into oblivion on the ground. I EXPECT 150-175 yds and a touchdown pass. I also expect 150-175 yards on the ground. Around 325-350 total yardage, 3 offensive touchdowns. I think this is realistic.

Now, if we can't run the ball (which would mean we are screwed for the year), then I expect 250 yards passing, 3 tds, 1 int.

I would take 20 out of 30 for 200 yards with more TD's than INT's. I have somewhat high expectations for our QB's, but I don't get too upset if they don't reach them.

I hope things go really well and we get to see some Tyson Lee and Chris Relf action in the second half. If that happens, he will easily have less than 200-150 yards.

Two touchdowns sounds reasonable, but he will never put up big TD numbers. We'll grind it out on the ground in the red zone.

...but we need something more than solid against a non-BCS team. Especially 5 years into an offensive system.

And mind you.. what I laid out wouldn't be spectacular.

we can run the ball down their throats and score. It was great last year to see defenses get worn down as the game went on until they were just trying to arm tackle Dixon and Ducre by late in the third quarter. It was like a throwback to the days of J.J. Johnson.

that's why I'm more concerned with completion percentage and turnover ratio. There's no way we'll throw more than 20 times unless we are losing, which isn't acceptable by any means.

more TDs than INTs.

That's really all there is to my expectations. I'll be surprised if we throw more than 20 times. We'll have lots of big gain receptions.

he is going to have to make a few quality throws to keep the chains moving, but other than that, dont look for us to air it out. I figure we will try to stretch the field once in the 1st quarter to Co-Eric, but anybody expecting a different offense from the last 4 years is kidding themselves.

especially if we are up by more than a touchdown in the second half. Croom showed several times he is willing to sent on a lead. I say if we are up at all in the second half Carrol will be lucky to throw more than 5 passes. It will more than likely be we practice running AD to the right or left for the entire second half.

11-18, 150 yds, 1 TD, no INTs......IF.....we have 240+ yards on the ground.

I know we will primarily run, but I'm hopeful that if we get up by 17 to 21 by mid 3rd quarter, that Croom will allow Wes to have a couple of series that are primarily passing. I'm hopeful that Croom will see the wisdom of letting Wes get a meaningful number of throws under his belt at game speed before AU & GT.

Ideal (but highly unlikely) scenario numbers: 18-28, 260 yds, 2 TD, 0 INTs

we will have almost 400 yards of offense. We had trouble building big leads on UAB and GW last year, La Tech is going to be a little better than them

in the air. Croom is talking about how he wants to see more playmakers and explosiveness so I assume we will experiment heavily with the passing game against La. Tech. Tough to see what will happen especialyl if Carroll goes down or he throws a few picks.

be in the 11-17 range. OneTD to a WR and one to a back out of the backfield.

I think you better not hold your breath waiting on Croom to let Carroll air it out at all for the sake of experience or anything other than an attempt to win a game. I don't believe it is in him to throw for the sake of throwing. Too many opportunities for error. He will keep it on the ground.

......dreamed about an upcoming MSU football game in years. In my dream we came out and embarrassed ourselves by losing badly to La. Tech. So, whatever numbers Carroll has, it won't matter if we lose. Of course, unless I'm a clairvoyant, my dream doesn't mean ****.

If we win, I'd say anything at 60%+ completions and 250 yards with no INTs is acceptable for the first game of the season. Naturally I'd hope the yards go up over time because we desperately need to develop a more powerful passing game. The question remains whether or not we actually have any receivers, and if the coaches actually have figured out what an offense is yet.

Trust me though, I haven't forgotten about defense and special teams. We must remain good in those areas if we want to keep winning, regardless of whether the offense finally shows up or not.

that we will have 400 yards of offense, but I can hope. Also, that number would be acceptable to me in a first game against a weaker opponent. I'm aware of what we did against UAB & GW last year. However, I will say that both of those games came immediately after losing a starting QB. Henig was lost at AU the week before GW and Riddell was lost at Carolina the week before UAB. Granted, Henig was no big loss, but both Riddell & Carroll had only arrived in the late summer or first of August. To expect them to light the world on fire is probably a bit unfair. I know McCorvey is a big part of the problem, but I'm slightly hopeful that having a QB with some ability and 9 games under his belt will help loosen up the play calling some.

Bottom line: It is August 6th dammit. Let me have my slightly wooly coat for now. It will more than likely be sheared soon enough.

7 yards per pass attempt
Touchdowns>turnovers

How many times we attempt to throw is not as important as our success/throw and avoiding turnovers. I look for Carroll to do well in both of these categories as long as the OL holds up its end of the bargain.

in wishing we would open it up and throw more...I just see us getting a 10 point lead and run, run, run run, run until they score again...i'm curious as to what the total on this game is going to be, because i look for it to go under...

The win is all that matters.

With that said I would like to see more of an open offense than a run offense to start. You need to practice the WCO. That is why you play these games against "lesser" competition. If you are going to limit yourself in this game and the next, you ain't going to add it against Auburn. You need to throw the ball these first two games to see if it will work later.

I look for 200 yards rushing and something like 11-20 for 140 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT from Carroll. And the good Dawgs win 24-13.

I seriously go back & forth on this season a lot. I can honestly see anywhere from 5-7 to 10-2 depending on how things shake out. We have, in my mind, 5 absolutely no questions should win games in LaTech, SELA, Vandy, MTSU, & UK. I know the 10 wins part is wooly as sheep ****, but I honestly feel like we have a legitimate chance at beating AU (new QB, new offense, at home), GT (new HC, new entirely different offense), at Bama (plenty of ? marks at key positions), Ark (@home, new coach, no DMac & Jones, new offense), & at UMiss (new HC, new QB who hasn't played any meaningful minutes in 2 seasons, no experienced RBs to take pressure off Snead). LSU & UT are the only ones I'm willing to concede now. I know we have no real shot at 10 wins, but I can't decide which of the 5 toss-ups to count as Ls and which to count as Ws. In all honesty, I feel like we will finish 7-5 again with a decent chance of going 8-4.

Like I said, it is August & my wool is sprouting. I hate it b/c I live in fear of the shearing and it tempers my excitement & enthusiasm about the season.

Carrol stats in games he started and we won 21-11-.6 .6TDs Games he started and we lost 39-21-1.3 2TDs.

However, as you guys know, the loses were UT, WVU, and Ark and the defense gave up a lot points. In this game, I don't see our defense giving up that many points. So, he could put up either stat line and win. With that said, I agree with others. Croom will go conservative and run the ball. As he should in this game. I predict 18-10-0 1TD

Odds are that we don't win it.. but concede? Hell no. They're no LSU, UGA or FL. This is not the Fulmer of the late 90's. They haven't recruited anywhere nearly as good as they used to.
