hell, he was in the running for the State job when Williams got it. He would be much, much more authoritative than Standsbury is. As much of an *** as I can be at times, I'm not in his league.

He is actually one of the few coaching friends of my father's that I don't like and I don't regret not playing for him one bit. It was quite fun showing him what he missed out on when the Seniors played the bball team in a challenge match before we graduated.

that he has to recruit players. When I was in school, MRA was average. I've noticed he started to recruit hard again after his average years.

but the number of contributing players they have year in and year out that didn't come up through the MRA system is staggering.

Actually, Duease is a great coach, great motivator and a father figure. Played for him in 02-05 when there actually was some competition and it was some of the best times of my life. Not his fault people want to go play for him and if they asked me, I would tell them too. I mean who else in the Mais has the "sunken gym", trips out of state against best athletes (played against Patrick Ewing Jr in Miami, played for #21 rank team in country we lost by 6), 4- sided hanging scoreboard, and the luxury of all the newest jerseys and shoes and warm-ups. Seriously the man has built a dynasty and the kids who actually played for him "have rings to prove it"... And the dynasty will continue after he is gone too.. Man i love college though

It's not like MRA is the only academy (or public school either for that matter)that recruits players.

I think Hawkins may have recruited at JA a little but he's gone. In MS, the academies don't recruit.

Everyone is playing with the hand they are dealt except MRA.

When I was in highschool (private) there were a few players at various schools that people thought (no proof) were probably recruited. But it was no more than 2-3 schools and 1-2 players per school. if what rugbdawg said is true, thats an entire team that was recruited (and they just won their record breaking 4th overall BBall title). I liken it to college athletics when someone says "everyone cheats", but MRA is taking to the extreme which usually gets the particular school into trouble (I doubt the MPSA will even bat an eye though).

BTW, I dont really care for highschool sports since leaving highschool. MPSA vs. MHSAA is the only thing that perks my interest. I dont care if MRA cheats or gets punished. Just felt like jumping in the conversation.

The free tuition offer I got from Coach Kinnison to play at Prep says differently..all the academies will try to bring in players...they aren't as blatant as Louisiana and Tennessee, but it goes on

would have a little more pride in your own abilities. Any private school could do what Duease is doing. And...most likely, a 6 year old could have coached this year's MRA team to the State championship. I'm NOT kidding...the talent gap was that big.

times change.

Prep and JA won every Overal title from 94-98 without a singlle recruited player.

Everyone on my football and baseball team (both state champions by the way) had been there since 7th grade. In basketball, we had two new kids. One moved from Texas and the other from Florida. I'm pretty sure the academies don't recruit out of state. Plus, we sucked in basketball.

Essentially what you're saying is that MRA is trying to win and all the other academies in the state are just playing for fun.

most schools play with the hand they are dealt.

YOu really think schools should go recruit in high school in order to show they are trying to win? What a joke.

Play the hand you are dealt, and build a program from the early ages up.

was dealt, he would be average. And...I don't see how someone could gain satisfaction from winning championships that way. That's why I don't respect Duease as coach. I know nothing about him as a person...other than I hear he is a nice guy.

At the time, they were juniors. Before their senior season, one of them got kicked off the team and the other two quit. Brandon was really, really good. All three of them were 8th graders when I was in 7th grade. Is that what you are talking about?

Edited to add: Bill Ball wouldn't put up with their "motion" offense even though we would have been a much better team with them.

geez. As to the original question...maybe Rick should do with his recruits what Duease has done with his.

The only sport that MRA could beat MC in is basketball. And that's because of Richard Duease.

Some of that is the overall suckitude of MC basketball minus our "One Shining Moment" with sixth man Joseph Iupe when we won 5A, but most of it is Duease.

Heck, I'm surprised that MC hasn't tried to hire him. Maybe they have and he turned them down. I don't know.

.

the year known at MRA as the year the "**** hit the fan" when the football team got put on probation for recruiting. It almost caused the school to get shutdown a la Woodland Hills.

I know it's two different sports, but I don't know why the Prep/JA influenced MPSA would let MRA slide in basketball either.

The funny thing about the football team getting put on probation was everyone in Madison knew it was going on. It really wasn't news when they got punished. I think Jack Carlisle was the coach for them- used to be a Murrah and Prep, and Ole Miss. They went 9-2 or something and won the MPSA or were runners up and had to forfeit every game. I knew a guy that played football at MC that was "recruited" by MRA. I asked him why he wanted to go there, and he said that they were paying him 2,000 dollars and he didn't have to pay tuition. I don't know where the money was coming from, and didn't ask. I guess their booster club, and the guy was a pretty good player, so I don't know if that was a standard amount or rather high.

When I was at MRA, MC did their best to get Dallas Walker totransfer there. They ended up with Jared Foster, buteither way they recruited a MPSA QB.Recruiting works both ways.

Though it would have been fun to see Dallas Walker bring his "Run backwards until they tackle me" style of quarterbacking to FIIIVE AAAYYYEE FOOTBAW

MHSAA schools picking off MPSA kids. I doubt there is much incentive other than more college exposure and not paying for private school tuition (and free chat). Being from Jackson it seems like MC picks up a good MPSA kid every couple of years or so. I think most transfer on their own accord though.

Either way you would have been getting a QB who was really overrated. Foster couldn't throw it to save his life, not to mention his reluctance to give up steroids. Walker managed to lose forty yards every time he attempted to run the ball, which is probably why he is now a TE at Western Michigan. In Dallas' defense though, he did have ya boi Eames attempting to block for him. And I use the word attempting for a reason.

going out of style. They have gotten better at it and compete for a State Championship every year. So the "no schools recruit" definitely isn't true.

Actually started out at JA. And was better than Foster or Dallas Walker.
