Official NCAA Basketball tournament != Collegiate football games

You're also not allowed to drink out of non-NCAA sanctioned cups at the tournament, etc etc.

Apples to oranges.

He might be saying we could have it worse because Hail State != Sic 'Em Bears

Apples to organes? If the NCAA didn't let them wear Sic Em on their jerseys, I can't imagine saying 'Hail State' is okay.

In the NCAA rule book there is no difference between the front of the jersey and the back of the jersey. It is the same rules that were used last year.

Even if it is, it's a 15 yard unsportmanslike penalty after the kickoff return after each half. Not too steep a penalty to pay. I would love to start some controversy with "illegal jerseys". It worked for Nike in the 90s.

Rule 1 Section 5 SS b

On your basketball analogy, I give you Forbes from a month ago
When it comes to developing jerseys featuring “Sick ‘Em Bears,” adidas may not be out of luck. That is because when it comes to football uniforms, the NCAA’s rules are different. The 2013 and 2014 NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations manual provides that along with a player’s number, a football jersey may only contain the player’s name; school name; NCAA Football logo; sleeve stripes; insignia for the school, conference, mascot, postseason game, memorial or the military; or an American or state flag. Given the presence of the broad category of “insignia” in the rule, it is likely that a Baylor football uniform could feature the phrase. The question, though, is whether adidas is willing to take another design risk and place the phrase on a football uniform? Regardless of what adidas decides to do moving forward with Baylor’s uniforms, one thing is certain: The company generated significant conversation over a basketball uniform design that wasn’t worn for a single quarter of basketball.

based on our experience, i dont think adidas has any qualms about taking design risks.

that said, outside of the hail state, i think the uniforms are a vast improvement. we are headed in the right direction. with a little tweaking, these could be great.

Um, after all that, this is what I picked out of the story. Dude that wrote it must not be too much of a college basketball fan

If that is so, then how is ole miss allowed to put ole miss on their jerseys? They're not ole miss university, it's a nickname just as much as hail state is, even though it's not what people refer to msu as. I'm guessing that there's different rules for round ball and football though since we've used it in past egg bowls.

This says that the NCAA doesn't allow it in POSTSEASON. But, I do agree on the 'Ole Miss' thing. I also get upset by the fact that if they want to be 'Ole Miss', the 'O' comes after the 'M' and they should be listed alphabetically as such...

According to Rule 1, Section 4, Article 5-b:
"Other than the player's number, the jersey may only contain:
Player's name; school name; NCAA football logo; sleeve stripes; insignia for school, conference, mascot, postseason-game, memorial, or the military; or an American or state flag."

I couldn't find anything about regular season or post season. That's quoted directly from the 2013-2014 rule book for reference.

NCAA rules are picked and chosen and changed as seen fit by the NCAA. It wouldn't surprise me if they chose to ban us from using them to set a precedent before a higher profile school tried to do it.

When Grasshopper is elected governor, Mississippi will be renamed Hail which means MSU would be Hail State, Southern Miss would be Southern Hail, and Ole Miss would be Ole Hail.

The baseball team though keeps the cap logo.

I would laugh and point if ya'll put Hotty Toddy on your jerseys

And everyone else here would too. But somehow we don't find it silly to put Hail State on ours, makes no sense.

Don't care for it but not upset about it.....

I would prefer just "STATE" or "MISS STATE". Hail State is a little hokey and most folks outside of MS will have no idea what it refers to. At least it distinguishes us from the fighting quagmires.

It's not but it's not the name of our school, just as much as ole miss isn't the name of your school. My point was just that if we can't have hail state on our uniforms then you shouldn't be allowed to use ole miss. I'm not a big fan of it though and wish it's said miss. state or msu

So, Its neither a team name nor a mascot... which would put it in defiance of NCAA rules...

Confirmed by Stricklin that it's OK for the front of our jerseys because it's a trademarked/copyrighted representation of the school...

As for using 'Hail State' instead of MS name, State has gotten permission because HS is a trademark.
