noted your response in the steak thread about fresh mkt. i usually get mine there because its convenient, but if you haven't tried the fillet from Jimmy's on 51, you should give it a try. the place is lets say, not impressive visually but the meat is outstanding. the fillets are expensive but absolutely the best i've found in the jackson area. first time i bought some i just asked for them and had to take a deep breath when he told me the total but had to admit after cooking them that they were pretty special.

They also have some really good plate lunches. I usually buy my steaks at Paul Anthony's or Mcdades, since I live in Jackson with all themurderers and rapists.

you have pretty well left the arena of good steaks, unless it is a bone-in filet. A filet is what I eat when I am trying to eat healthy. You just need more fat in the meat to produce a steak with outstanding taste. A filet is the steak for a non-steak lover.

Best Steak I have had was a Bone-InFilet at Jeff Ruby's in Cincinattiand Louisville.....and I also like bone in rib-eyes (about 1.5 inches or thicker)

going back to the where to get a good steak thread form the other day, and staying in line with your filet theory, the Porterhouse at Como Steakhouse is probably the most incredible cut of meat on the planet.

i think you make a fair point. i don't agree that the fillet is for the non steak lover. i would say that a "serious fillet" is awfully good (as compared to just a fillet cut) but i must confess that a good ribeye (esp bone in for the dog) is my personal favorite to grill.

ETA... i like your reference to the fillet and "eating healthy"....i'm going to remember that next time my wife or Dr. daughter starts onme about reb meat. LOL

Try a Prime from Paul Anthony's and get back to me, there is some good marbling in their filets. My wife only eat's filets, butI prefer a good Porterhouse, Ribeye, or T-Bone any day of the week....

I wish I could have that today.Hamil's and Keifer's. Anybody in Memphis area, where the hell can you get a decent gyro around here? ****! I have been looking for 4 years. Nothing as good as Keifer's or Vasillio's.

And prime is the only way you are going to get marbling in a filet that is even close to adequate, other than the introduction of the bone and the fat around the bone -- although that isn't really marbling.

A filet, due to the difficulty of finding one with adequate fat just isn't going to be the choice of most steak lovers.

what with all the 450lb women pushing you out of their way. Damn, it's like the buffet line at the cheapest possible Carnival cruise.

people of your caliber should at least have someone getting your food for you. Disappointed.

however if you're really interested in a more flavorfull steak you need to look for grass fed beef (I am no beef/steak conisour) but I've been studying up on beef recently (side project from studying up on swine meat for a BBQ competition). There is some very interesting information out there on the evolution of how steak flavoringhas changed over the past 50+ years. I haven't had the chance tobuy any online yet and I don't know anywhere aroundMemphis that sells grass fed steaks but its something I'll betrying soon.

all you can eat with ribs, pulled pork, chop brisket, smoked turkey, smoked chicken, BBQ chili (they put the scraps in there from the other meats; it is a meat extravaganza in your mouth (that's what she said)), and of course all of your typical fried sides and veggies.

i might die a happy man afterall

There is a signabove the entrance to the kitchen that says "Bulldog Country." I typically put my hand over my heart as I enter the line then proceed to increase myLDLcholesterol level.

Best steak in a resteraunt is Shula's. The closest one to Jackson is in Birmingham.
Best steak in Jackson is probably Ruth's Chris. This is because everyone else Shapley's, Tico's, etc. are all inconsistient.
Beststeak from a store is Kroger. You can't get good steak unless you order it online.

Are you living your life in chain establishment additction or something? Kroger, Schula's, Ruth Chris?

Kroger? Really? I do buy steaks at Kroger out of convenience. But, Paul Anthony's whips Kroger all day long. There are plenty of places to get good steaks without going on line.

I just don't get it about Ruth Chris. Big plate of sizzling butter -- I get that part --sell the sizzle not the steak. Well, I like a place that sells the steak. I don't find Shapley's inconsistent, unless they give me a waiter not of my choosing.

Best Steaks period -- Shulas? I don't have anything against Shulas. It's a good chain. But, there are countless better places to get a steak.

and like I said in that thread I worked at Tico's for a few years, but I now live in Memphis. My family still lives in Jackson so next time I am down there I will check that place out

That is so dumb. Until you've been to this place or one like it, you don't have a clue.

Best steak in Jackson is probably Ruth's Chris. This is because everyone else Shapley's, Tico's, etc. are all inconsistient.

There hasn't been a time that I have been to Tico's or Walker's in Jackson when the service and food haven't been excellent/close to perfect. I honestly don't know what you're talking about.

The guy who owned it for 20 years was/is on the "booger sugar" and booze.Apparently, that is an expensive combinationand he went bankrupt. It was not a chain. Most anyresteraunt that serves steaks in the Delta is better than anything in Jackson.
