He was UM's beat writer before he got promoted to columnist. Then Rapaport left and Wallace took over as MSU beat writer for a while before bolting to Miami.

...when Ian R. Rapoport moved to Birmingham. Wallace was only going to cover MSUuntil a FTbeat writer TBD (who became Veazey) was hired, but left after only a few weeks to Miami and the Heat beat. Edit to add: before being columnist he did cover Ole Miss if I recall correctly.

but they apparently make solid hires. Sekou left to cover the Pacers in Indy and now covers to Hawks for the AJC, Ian was hired away to cover the Tide in Birmingham and is now the BostonHerald's Patriots beat writerand Mike Wallace left for the Miami Herald. Pretty good list of alumni.

Mike was the beat writer for Ole Miss, then a full time features writer and columnist, then temporarily covered State until Kyle came on. He always wanted a NBA job and actually was a finalist for the AJC Hawks beat.

Great guy, great reporter, taught me a lot when I was a student newspaper fish.

And yes, the CL is a great place for a beat writer to work on D1 sports. Rusty is a great SE, even if he isn't hospitality queen sometimes. Rick is one of the nicest and most respected columnists around.
