I am actually interested in the beginning of baseball. Not that I expect alot this season, but I now know that we are at leastTRYING again and have had a couple good recruiting seasons under Cohen. I am now paying attention again.
figured that baseball would sell itself. I mean, it had been that way since 1970, why would it stop in the 2000's?
I know that I have mentioned a lot of promotional things that MSU could/should do, and wouldn't be surprised to see many of those things done under Byrne, but nothing attracts crowds like a winner.
I think MSU is ready to have a winner. We haven't really had a special season since 1998. And by special season, I mean going from start to finish where the team was solid and people were excited about the team in general all year long. We have had some special moments since then- like the SEC Tournament Championship, and the CWS run in 2007, but those seasons were marred somewhat with struggles.
As long as Cohen continues to draw top 10 recruiting classes, it won't be long before we are good. It all starts with players.
It was kind of weird during the entire Polk II era because it was almost like there was an internal struggle between winning and making sure that the players were happy no matter what. While the atmosphere may have been very player friendly, even the best baseball fans aren't going to want to watch a team where winning isn't a priority. I mean, I could go to a church league softball tournament for free if I wanted to watch a bunch of people "have a good time". Why would I drive two hours on a weekend to Starkville and pay for gas, food, and a ticket to watch that when I could see that in my hometown?
