What is the word on Todd Lott moving from Washington School over to Greenville Weston High School? Just looking for a raise? Will be interesting to see if he can build a program out of a once proud delta school. GWHS always seems to have a ton of athletes, but rarely do they have a clue what they are doing. Maybe it will open up for MSU in recruiting since Todd is a bulldog.

And from what I heard, 113 kids came out the first day and got all their gear. Then 47 showed up for the first practice. I wish him all the best there.

Todd is a good coach but it will take more than a good coach to turn that school and town for that matter around. I wish him the best as well.

would be an improvement over what they had. I don't know exactly what their roster size was, but it looked like they only had 30-35 players, and that's ridiculous for a school almost the size of Madison Central.

When I saw them, they were a complete and utter trainwreck.

I'm sure it's down closer to the numbers you had. Metal detectors and kids stealing gear...a new coaching challenge.

Coaches have to go above and beyond there if you want to win or even field a competitive team...examples:

1. We had 4 starters miss the Thursday before our 1st game one season because they were in court...the judge let them off for public shooting because they had been attending football practice everyday (gotta love Charleston)
2. We literally had to cancel a practice the first Friday before school started because so many kids and their parents were going to Memphis for clothes shopping
3. If you dont drive around the areas and physically pick some of your players up, they won't be there till school starts. In many areas, they don't think they have to practice until school begins.
4. You have to educate the parents as well. It's prefectly normal to them for your starting TB that is being recruited all over to miss practice so he can watch his young sister and cousin while his mother goes to work at Sonic in Batesville.
5. Take them off to camp for the first week-so that way they cant get away. I cant explain how worth it it is to do this.

Coaching Delta kids has a different set of rules.

they would run toss sweep for 10 yds a play all the way down the field, then try to throw inside the 20 and get it picked and returned for a TD.

They would avg. 300 yds on the ground and get beat 42-0 every week.

And , like Croom, special teams were a necessary evil.

half the time we would have to call another school for a decent film- we once got a film that they had shot from the sidelines

once, talking to the West Tallahatchie coaches before we played them, just BS'ing before the game...I asked them who they played next week- neither coach had any idea who their next opponent was- they had to turn around and ask a manager

It's just a different world
