How many 5th year guys play at FSU?

I doubt many.

2010: 9th

2011: 1st

2012: 11th

all of those years they were top 10 in star average, and actually 1st in avg in 2012 class (only signed 19).

I think the point was to the fact that Duke gave A & M all they wanted even though A & M averaged what? 40 50 places higher in the recruiting rankings. I haven't looked but would probably guess that every conference win they had this year were to teams ranked higher in the recruiting rankings. Great coaching and player development to get 10 wins at Duke.

Nobody should

be disputing that these top 10-15 teams are insegnificant, however, past that it really isnt much of a difference until you probably get in the 50s or so.

Fact is, Ole Miss ALWAYS has to downgrade their recruiting rankings after your "top players" drop out, get arrested, transfer, etc. Every year is the same: 1) Signing day, you have "the greatest new crop of players since the 1974 Pittsburgh Steelers, 2) you win a couple games in a row, it's "we's back to our glory days", 3) after losing yet another Egg bowl, it's "Ah'm so glad you has Dan Mullens as yer coach."

The next year, it's lather, rinse, repeat.....

MSU 11 (5 starters)

Used Eligibility
Umiss 7 (6 Starters)
MSU 8 (7 starters)

Transfer/Kicked of Team
Umiss 7
MSU 1

Made NFL Roster/Practice Squad
Umiss 3 (of 7 who used up eligibility) (None from MS HS)
MSU 5 (of 8 who used up eligibility) (4 from MS)

Could make roster next year
Umiss 1 (Moncrief if he declares) (1 from MS)
MSU 3 (Bumphis, Autry, Russell) (2 from MS)

In summary MSU does a better job of keeping and developing their 4 and 5* players. A 4/5* player had a 62.5% (MSU) vs 42.5% (Umiss) of making an NFL roster during that time so far. Almost a 50% better chance of making it to the league. If you are a Mississippi High School player your chances were infinitely better because Umiss sent no MS HS players to the league so far.

Umiss lost 33.3% of their 4/5*'s vs MSU's 5%.....so far.

Two things about that.

First and foremost, all of the OM attrition is on Houston Nutt's watch. None of those players left under Freeze.

Also, i am not sure how you classify Evan and James as backups since they haven't played b/c of off field issues. That sounds like attrition to me. Evans may even be off the team at this point. I didn't bother looking at any of the others, but considering the slant put on those two, you have to assume there are others on the list that are questionable.

Point being stars matter only to a certain extent. I trust Mullen or any competent coach like cutcliffe more than I trust Yancy Chuck Paul or gene to evaluate/develop talent. When Ole Miss "wins" signing day again this year it would be helpful for our fans not to fall for it and trust our coaches. This sounds sheepish so be it.
