championship: Just remember how those have worked out for the bears these last few years. It means NOTHING. It's what is done on the field that matters.

what is he going to be able to accomplish with better than average players?

I don't judge by the bear recruiting, it has been all over the map.

Dan has done a great job of signing guys that actually get in school and stay on the team... That's a Big difference from the Bears Championship Classes...

judge this class in 2-3 years. He mentioned Fletcher specifically, being a 3* and now a junior likely to be a first round draft pick.

I still think stars matter to a degree. Dan has done good with good talent, we are about to take that next step starting with this class.

It also matters what type of person you get, whether you runa tight or loose program, what you do on the practice field, and yes, the classroom. All of the above puts the product on the field. Nutt took some good talent and wasted it away.

Mullen has proved just the opposite.

needs to go back and look at their '09 class and re-evaluate it. That was the 37 person class they signed, and it was ranked 17th on Scout. That class turned out pretty terrible, and I don't even know how many of those guys like Patterson never made it to campus.

If you only follow recruiting through signing day, you're missing the whole point. It's step 1 in a long process. Attrition affects a class, some good, some bad. Some players just aren't that good. Others are better than expected.

You can "win" step 1 in the process by landing mostly Plan A guys on your list, but then those players actually have to show and become something.

Our 2009 classes are great examples. February 2009, both classes were rated about the same and both looked fairly strong. Ours fell to pieces because we had too many head cases. Yours had a lot of very good players and some quality depth that developed into something. It's a big part of why you've won 16 games the last two years, and our 2009 class is a big part of the reason we won 6 games the last two years. It's a full process.

On scout anyway. Don't know about rivals.<div>
</div><div>The better example would be Banks, who was a 2*, MSU was his only offer, and ESPN has him rated the #1 CB returning next season.</div>

from a DM class to any of the ones from previous years. I counted only 6 players in Mullen's 2009 class that have not made a fairly significant contribution and most of those either transferred or quit football. That gives Dan nearly an 80% hit rate for that class. If I go back just one year to 2008, there are more than 6 guys whose names I barely even recognize. Go further back and other than a few exceptions, it just gets worse. It's like Croom only recruited backup caliber players nearly the entire time he was there.

I think it's a little early to assign a hit rate for Dan's 2010 class since so many of those guys were redshirt freshmen last year, but that one's already looking pretty good too. There are a lot of guys in that class that made some solid contributions to the team last year.

..this board melts down when OM beats us in recruiting, but if we beat OM in recruiting, we are warned to take it all with a grain of salt & proceed with caution.

All I have to say is this is a damn good recruiting class & I am going to enjoy it.

If it ends up being a bust 2 years from now, I'll deal with it 2 years from now.
