...this was back in the days when $100 a year was considered a good wage. Of course, those millions were made on the backs of slaves.

James Alcorn was one of the few Confederate officers who became a Republican after the War. He was Governor during Reconstruction. His feud with Radical Republicans helped destroy the GOP in Mississippi, until the party was resurrected in the 1960's as a reaction to the racist Democrats blowing up churches and burning crosses.
