Simrall said the flow and velocity of the river have or will reach unprecedented levels.<span class="aa"></span>

<span class="pp"></span>He
said the flow at Vicksburg at the flood's peak will be 2.4 million
cubic feet of water per second, while the velocity of the water should
be moving at 20 feet per second.<span class="aa"></span></p><span class="pp"></span>For
perspective, Simrall said the normal flow at Vicksburg would be about
600,000 cubic feet of water per second, while the velocity could
normally be as slow as 5 feet per second.

Drive across the Bonnet Carre Spillway on the way to work at a refinery(north of New Orleans Airport). They opened it monday and it was crazy seeing how much water was going through. Today the water was almost to the top of the levees along the spillway.. Crews were adding dirt to the levee tops and equipment everywhere... Looks like they are panicking and waited way too damn long to open any of the spillways. Trigger to supposedly open the BC Spillway is 1.5 million cubic feet per second. When do they open it? After it had passed 1.9 million cubic feet per second. And now the spillway is about to over flow. Saw a ship full of diesel today in the river and it barely fit under a bridge and could see then entire vessel. Usually only see the bridge of the ship when they are full. It may be too late to open the Morganza for its intended purpose. Flood Warnings were issued from Baton Rouge to New Orleans tonight. Good old Corp of Engineers waiting too long.
