For those loving the double bye. More evidence. .

Think this year is a bigger outlier than most. Very little difference between teams 2 thru 10 in the conference.

Ps.. they mentioned earlier that the number 2 has lost 4 of the last 5 years on Friday.

Byes and even double byes in a conference tournament are one thing. All teams played a lot of games against the same teams. They earned their byes.

But when BYEs are discussed in the college football playoffs it is a completely different issue. While teams records and rankings are earned to some degree.. the advantages of byes are too great and there is no guarantee the comparative rankings and who EARNED what more are just too difficult to quantify objectively.

The advantage of the double bye comes in the semis and finals. It's usually a disadvantage in the quarters in my opinion.

Even if the bye is a slight disadvantage in the quarters (I'm not sure I really buy this, but it's possible) it's still a big advantage over having to win a game or two to even get to the quarters.

They’re absolutely stupid in terms of the automatic bids for one-bid conferences, which should go to the regular season champ. Play the tournament, and maybe somebody can play their way in to an at-large bid, or get the automatic to the NIT.

Not sure when people are going to realize most double bye games are statistically close to a coin flip in terms of win probabilities .

Doesn’t earning a double bye mean you have a better record than those that don’t? Isn’t that what we all aspire to?

How did we fair with having a double bye or playing a team with a double bye?
you needed my to tell you? WE LOST as the double bye and we lost as THE 9 playing the #1 (number 5 team in the country).

Statistically over the past two years its 37.5-62.5 (winning/losing) as a 2x bye.
20-80 if you are the two seed last 5 years.

I'm in the camp of getting on a role and used to the rims, etc against a lower seeded team can be better for some teams. Go ask OSU and PSU.

now if folks wanted us at the double because it meant we won more games and were in the NCAAs..that I get but we didn't even need that had we just taken care of some business.

and that's way too much of me trying to explain/ support MY opinion to you given your jerkish remark.

Ken, as I just explained (After your post) yes..but it potentially has consequences for both tourneys if you're trying to win them.

It's the same reason many experts here would want to avoid the 8/9 game in the NCAA and suggest the 10 is better than the 8/9.

I think they will. Something like this.

8 teams (9-16) play Wednesday to produce 4 winners.
4 Wednesday winners play teams 5-8 on Thursday to produce 4 winners.
4 Thursday winners play teams 1-4 on Friday.
Yep. That's how the bracket will be set up once UCLA/USC come in.
