Is he still an elitist jerk ******* like he was then? Something tells me we will be going back to the LT style of AD that walks past students with a nose stuck up in the air on his way to the cigar boys, instead of the the ninja style of shaking hands with more people than the POTUS.

Can he get rid of Stansbury and Cohen and bring in some young hungry winners? I don't give a **** what Cowbell9 says, Cohen is a huge disappointment and no matter what shape our program is in, we shouldn't lose to JSU ever.

At least, for the most part, it can't get any worse.

It's already been posted that he went to Prep.

Seriously though, Byrne wasn't a good AD because he gladhanded the fans and students. He was a good AD because of his ideas, his hires, the way he ran the department, and his fundraising. Just like Templeton wasn't a terrible AD because he didn't gladhand the fans and students. He was terrible because of the opposite reasons Byrne was good. I'm a lot more concerned about job Stricklin will do than with how nice of a guy I think he is. And from what little I know about him, I think he'll do a good job.

I met Scott at the SEC tournament in Nashville and he was extremely nice and polite. He actually approached me because he saw that I was looking for tickets. He let and friend and me in through the players gate and gave us the tickets at the cheapest price that he could. And there was GREAT seats. He was probably a prick back in the day but that's how they raise them at Jackson Prep. I have several friends from Prep who come across as ********, but once you get to know them and know what they're all about you see that they're great people.

Plus who cares if he's an ******* if he's a good CEO (which is what an AD is these days). And don't forget that GB was promoted from within. There's a lot of good that Scott can do and I believe that he'll do it. I think it's a great hire and hopefully he will show it.

he wants to keep you giving your 250k a year donation to the bulldog club. Plus I hear your yacht would make Fred Smoot jealous.

But, seriously, I just haven't ever found him that way. Now, when he was in school, he was really busy working. So, sometimes rushing around really busy might cause that impression -- just a thought.

Maybe if I had worked harder and smoked less pot in 1989 I could be the AD today. Man, what could have been if I still had all my brain cells. DawgAtAuburn would be my assistant AD, coach34 would coach all 3 major sports at once. It would be awesome.

The only time I met the guy this is exactly my experience. As I've said before, he was very enthusiastic and energetic, and just trying to get as much maroon as possible into that place. I think (hope) he'll do well.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. You're just a typical bedwetting liberal...

Some rich guy pissed on you early in life, you never got over it, and now you spend the rest of your life trying to get even...

How's that Hope and Change working out for you?

but probably right. Even back then, the rich republican elite hated me. But before we have this conversation, we need to know what your ACT score was.

eastern liberal elite -- did they dislike you as well. I mean, is it the elite that hates you, or the republicans? Or both?

Because I would think it would pain you to have John Kerry hate you just like say, George HW Bush would.

that everybody hates me.

I shall now take my ball and go home, leaving you republicans alone to talk about how bad it is to give health care to little poor kids from the ghetto.

.....about how evil Ronald Reagan was, how the Cuban Medical system was the greatest in the world, and complaining about the 4% unemployment rate, perhaps Stricklin would've been nicer.

It is bad to be FORCED to give free health care to poor little kids in the getto. Or my best friend's grandmother. Or the little orphan of my relative. Or anybody.

Republican's are just socialist/republic hybrids.

We can't afford it. When our country's top three expenses are 'health and human services', social security, and paying off the interest on our debt, we need to take a serious look at the budget. Why do people continue to have children when they can't pay for their health care?

What if we could afford it? So what. It is wrong to take money from one individual by force and give it to another individual. We aren't talking about a road, or polic protection that we collectively share. We are talking about taking money from one person and giving it to another. That is oppressive and tyrannical, no matter how much whoever is in power thinks the person needs it, nor weather there is sufficient money in the government coffers to enable it.

I personally agree, but didn't want to get into the morality of the argument. Simple finance and economics should have made this an easy decision.

and basically saying you think sick poor people should just die off. Yeah, that's very moral of you.

I tell ya what though, I personally would be willing to completely scrap the Healthcare bill and save all that money if at the same instant we could stop spending billions of dollars a day on unnecessary wars.

Not sure why I'm arguing this, it's typical right wing double talk. We can't afford it is the argument when you are against something, or it's immoral, but sign us up for a war, and we can suddenly afford it, and its totally cool to be doing it.

I will agree with you on the war. I forget the quote I saw the other day. But, it was something about limited government at home requiring restraint abroad. I don't think our mission is to spread democracy throughout the world. If they want it, they will take it themselves. Maybe they don't want our form of government. Their problem.

However, back to your healthcare issue. It's not about whether they should have healthcare or not. It's whether you should force someone else to pay for it against their will. Maybe they want to provide it for someone of their own choosing. Maybe they have a different standard of who they choose to provide it for. Maybe they want to be a bitter old miser and, as in your example, let them die. That should be their freedom to make that choice, not have some tyrant make that choice for them.

And that's precisely why I told him to stay on message. What we can or cannot afford is not the issue. "We can't afford it" is a recipe for some to say, "Well, let's raise taxes, then." The current spending binge was one giant future mandate for redistribution of wealth. We are giving it away, however, before we are taking it away from others. The glut of spending is intended to insure that one day there will be no other choice than to take it from people in order to repay the spending of today. If you are in favor of redistribution of wealth, it is a really smart way to do it. You save the hard part until there is no other choice. In the meantime, you go ahead and give it away.
