31 yards slyker... RU's starting QB had 31 friggin' yards for a complete game. Can you find any other starting QB at a power school with numbers like that at any point of the season?
Lucky for you, in the week prior to the RU game with Wisconsin, I had watched some of the BTN replay of a game in which a similar performance occurred. Didn’t even have to look outside the 2015 Wisconsin schedule to find an example of a power 5 QB who had a pretty similar game statistically to Laviano’s performance against Wisconsin
And just to correct you, Laviano did not play the complete game as you state, so it is difficult to directly compare his stats to someone who did play a full game. He only had the benefit of playing 3 quarters of the game. And since it appears, you don’t seem to remember, I’ll remind you that Rettig played the first two series in the 4Q against the starting D (as well as the last series vs the scrubs) and led the team to two three and outs, going 1 for 5 with 2 total yards passing, (or was it 3… as if it really matters) .
Now back to your question.
Just about a month ago, the QB of the #10 ranked, 8-0 Iowa Hawkeyes, (who were averaging 38 points per game coming into the Wisconsin game)…. had a not so stellar statistical day against the same stingy defense. And this QB did play the complete 4 quarters . CJ beathard was 9 for 21 for a whopping 77 yards. 3.6 yards per attempt… .versus 2.2 yards per attempt for Laviano. Led his team to 10 total points. A little better than Laviano, but considering he had an additional quarter to work with… and did not have to play the game in rainy, wet conditions….. it’s quite comparable. And consider also that this kid is a much more experienced Junior QB, on a top 10, 8-0 Iowa team that has an offensive line that protects their QB much better, and has a better running game to support the passing game. Do you think it is a little understandable that both Laviano and Rettig could do absolutely nothing against the Wisconsin first team D?
Since it was so easy for me to find an example of what you are looking for, I’m sure you can easily find many other examples where defenses have held other power 5 passing games down in nasty weather. But I'll leave it to you to do that on your own
