i sayRULE 17YOU!!!

You all asked this same thing when Croom was further destroying the football program. Look what we ended up with............someone who has turned this thing around in 24 months!!

I have full confidence that Scott Stricklin can find the right person to lead the basketball program.

Except maybe in that wool-filled summer of 2008 when this board was positively bleating with optimism.

I don't care about Stans but there wasn't a single person in the MSU family that tried to defend Croom

it wasnt like it was a majority opinion by any means- but it was always said with "that would come to State"...and that defeatist attitude was finally shot down when we got Mullen. You have to admit- most people didnt believe the OC from the National Champion would take the State job. You dont know until you try.

For 1.1 million, we can hire better than we have right now

There were even people that didnt want to fire Crooms because they were worried we would lose the recruiting class he was putting together. That was said many times on this very board

It was bad enough when we just couldn't develop players once on campus, but now we can't even get guys on campus that can contribute right away.

playing Kentucky, Fla, Vandy and like twice each?

The SEC West in basketball is not nearly as good as the East.

Crooms had to compete in an SEC West filled with top 20 teams. Stansbury has never had to fight that battle.

Bull 17'n **** there wasn't! There were people defending Crooms AFTER 45-0, scared shitless that the "nation" was going to look down on MSU for firing the poor ol SEC's first African American coach after only 5 years.

...And, if the SEC had an end of the year football tournament, how many of those might croom have won?...or how many times would he have made it to the championship game?

I don't know why the Stans defenders always jump to it. If you win the west in football, you get a one game shot at BCS bowl game, as well as probably being in the national championship game picture.

If you win the West in basketball, apparently you get to cross your damn fingers for an NCAA tourney bid.

Winning the West in football is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times more important than winning the West in basketball.

I was not able to buy season tickets this year to basketball and tonight was the first game that I had been to this year.

I usually am one that supports whoever is coach no matter how good or how bad they are because I just don't know that much about it. But...

I carried my girlfriend tonight to the game and I doubt she even knows that each team has five players and she could see just how poorly coached our team was. She said that it looks like the Tennessee team is playing together like a team and our boys are just playing with themselves.

I know so much less about basketball than I do football but that was a pathetic performance tonight. I finally agree that it time he was replaced.

Our fan base putting 2500 people in the hump the last two games--we lost them both by a point or so, and likely would be undefeated right now if we would have had at least 6000 people in the stands. Everyone knows this crew that stansbury has on the floor without sid and dee is marginal, and needs home court adv.

All the people slacking on getting out to these games (a lot of the same ones that are bitching on sps) will be going nuts whn we are on the bubble.

***** about stansbury if u must, but he is not the only one to blame for our two losses.

Missing the two best players on the team doesn't matter to these knuckleheads on here.

I have been to all the home games except for one this year, but after tonight I'm not going back until SEC play. I don't give a **** if we are playing in front of 50 people and without our top 3 players, no reason in hell to lose to the teams like we have.

We have played all of these second or third tier teams at home. How many do you think we would have beaten on the road? Probably none.<div>
</div><div>And how many college coaches have their little boys sitting on the bench with the players and listening in on all time out discussions? Couldnt be distracting. could it?</div>

Croom would've won 0 of those tournaments... and would've never made it to the championship game. Croom deserved to be fired.

But comparing basketball success to football success is such a damn stretch, I can't see how people view it as a legitimate point to argue... ?

When winning the West in football gets you the BBVA compass bowl, then maybe you clowns can have a point to argue about... but until then... winning the west in football and winning the west in basketball are not comparable entities.

If you don't think 3500 more seats in the stands doesn't likely get us one more bucket, or defend one more, you are flat out wrong.

Point is, plenty of blame falls on stansbury, but there has to be some shared by our fan base--if we are showing up, we are undefeated right now.

He is our coach, and will be for quite some time--get over it, and support the team and do your part to get us wins

Tennessee didn't win the east last year yet they were playing in the Elite 8 contending for a national title. Which banner would you rather hang? The reason the Big 12 dosent split their conference in basketball is because playing teams like Nebraska, Colorado, and Iowa State twice does nothing to help Kansas or Missouri get into the NCAA tournament. I don't understand why after we have seen so much progression since LT has been out that we stay content with winning the west and struggling through our pathetic nonconference schedule every year. And yes I realize that not having our starting point guard is a big hit, but ETSU got beat by SC Upstate and Murray State this year, surely whoever we have on the bench is better than either of their point guards.

I commented in a discussion where the justification for firing Stans was him being compared to Croom. So I dont think my questions and comments were a stretch. Why is not a legitimate point? What other point is there to compare and argue in such a discussion? Are you saying that winning the SEC West in any sport other than football is relatively meaningless? Are you saying that winning an SEC tournament is of no real value?

Prior to Stansbury taking over MState's head coaching duties in 1998, the Bulldogs had totaled seven postseason tournament berths and eclipsed the 20-win mark just seven times in the school's 86 previous years of basketball competition.

<font color="#660000">State Success During Rick Stansbury Era
</font>
- Entering his 13th season at the helm, Rick Stansbury is MSU's all-time winningest coach with 255 victories.
-The Bulldogs have averaged 21 wins per season and have participated in post-season tournament play 10 times (6 NCAA & 4 NIT).
-Mississippi State made five-consecutive postseason tournament appearances (2001-05) for the first time in school history, including a streak of four-straight NCAA Tournament berths from 2002-05.
- The Bulldogs have won 20-plus games nine times under Stansbury's guidance.
- Since 1998-99, MSU is the winningest program in the SEC Western Division and is third overall behind Kentucky and Florida.
- In the last eight years, only one team in the SEC has won five divisional titles. Mississippi State.

alot of people still would have wanted him back another season. It shouldnt have taken 45-0 to realize he needed to go.
