Handley hasn't completed a pass and they have run at will. 21. 10 half. Controlled the ball and clock.
Sounds like they’re using y’all’s game plan tonight. Or is that how they normally play?
Salem defense getting exposed. The defense is a lot closer to the one that played Pulaski Co. then the one we saw the last few weeks.
Isn't Handley starting QB out? If true, then Salem should count their blessings. Could be going even worse.

The last few weeks of the season Salem hasn't played a team with a pulse. I stand by what I said. This defense is historically bad. Worst since before Coach White's arrival.
Been a 2nd half team the entire season, this wasn't surprising to people who pay attention.
Those Winchester boys better than you think like I said . No easy win for Salem. To bad for the QB and RB or it could have been a different game for Handley .
Yeah that was pretty brutal to watch. Salem's defense got run up and down the field by a team missing their QB and running two different plays to the same side of the field for an entire game. I really don't even have it in me to list all the issues they have defensively and will hold my tongue.

Handley played great game. Had the lead 28-23 with 9 minutes left and Salem on their own 20. Salem got in the power I and ran right at Handley. 5 yards in a cloud of dust. Woody Hayes would have been proud. Salem went 80 yards never throwing a pass and scores with 1:09 left ( on a 4th and 2 from the 2 running straight ahead). The Salem offense is good. That's not their problem.
But they are 9-2 and have a win in the playoffs. The defense is (let's be kind) suspect.
Salem is Salem. Danville had a big win tonight and I’m hopeful they will be able to give Salem a game next week.
Great game, this is what you want out of a 4 vs 5 seed. Two great high school football teams going at it.

Questions for (older) Salem people on the thread, have you ever seen Salem run a true power I like they did tonight?
In 2011, they occasionally ran I formation with a “sniffer”/h back in the c gap both away from tight end and towards tight end depending on play (Brought Mic Edwards in from Z to be this position, Marty bishop at full back and Jordan Daniels at tailback).
But not sure I have ever seen two fullbacks parallel like tonight before.
I am sure with 40 years of power football at Salem, some teams had the personnel for it like this one and ran it.

Willis White used to run it, especially late in games when teams loaded the box.
Thanks for this southbottomU. Not sure how I feel about it. Think they could have had similar success running regular inside/ outside iso and putting 34 in there at the 3 back position, but results don’t lie. We pounded them just slightly better than they pounded us in the run game.
May look the same to most in the stands but they have set up so many different versions of sweep, off tackle, counter, trap, dive this year. All the same conceptually up front but giving defenses vastly different looks.
Above all things this was a heck of a game. My hats off to the Judges. To come down on a Friday night down 81 from Winchester and play as well as they did. I made that trip many times when I used to live in Winchester. It’s kinda bittersweet to me when Handley meets up with Salem as I do miss my time spent up in Winchester. I see more battles between these two squads in the future. Jaishaun Offutt for the Judges has a bright future at Wake Forest and I’m sure Akanbi is getting some D1 looks. That young man can play.
My sister use to live in Winchester. The Judges won a state title going undefeated in 94 I think
The defense is still nowhere near up to snuff. # 8 had what, almost 300yds in the first half? If he didn’t get hurt, Salem would be 1 and done. And they were down there starting qb. I’m afraid it’s gonna get ugly in Danville if Salems D can’t figure out how the contain the edges, the back side is very weak. And for the love of God, the secondary blows coverage all the time. It’s been this way the last 5-6 years. With the athletes Salem has in the secondary I’m beginning to think it’s a coaching issue in the secondary.
