For those who went to game, Sat....how did Dak look in passing game and

Waited too long in the pocket, accuracy wasn't great, threw the ball into crowds, and just straight threw interceptions. Looked like a freshman.

But the offense he ran wasn't one that suits him. We were throwing the ball almost every play and the QB wasn't allowed to run. We wouldn't run that offense if he were playing a real game.

I think Dak is a Chris Relf with more passing game upside.

He look inexperienced and was all over the place. What Flab said was exactly what I thought, he was stuck into a pocket passer offense that does not suit him at all.

I agree that he would be running a lot more Relf type of an offense.

I will say this though, if Tyler Russell goes down this year, we are in for a very very long year.

to Dak this year. Tyler was thrust into a situation last season that he and the team was not prepared for. Blame the coaches for that, blame whoever, but that's what happened.

Tyler was asked to run the same kind of O that Relf did, and he wasn't able to excel in that system. Dak is not a pocket passer. Since we have implemented a pass happy system, Dak would struggle with that right now.

However, as far as Dak goes, he is not as strong as Relf, but he is a step faster, and he can throw better. His ceiling is way higher.

If his passing is not his strong game I would definitely spend the spring having him work on that part of his game much more than running the ball. Not to mention if he was running the ball more in the spring the possibilities of him getting injured running the ball is much greater than sitting in the pocket with the "don't hit the QB" rule in spring ball.

We had a run first QB and now a throw first QB. Developing the next one so that they have the ability to do both effectively depending on the game situation would really be nice.

We know Dak is pretty quick but needs work in the passing game, so let him pass in the pocket and develop that part of his game. No need to risk injury by let him be take off when it really dosen't matter.Dak is gonna be good, now I'm concerned about 3 string QB

on offense to suit Tyler's strengths. I think it makes Dak look pedestrian in practice/scrimmages. Its a win-win though. Dak gets to work on the part of his game that needs the most improvement. I could care less how he looked in the spring game. This time last year all we could talk about was how awful Tyler looked and how much of a game changer Lil Favre was. What a difference a year makes

The spring game was a microcosm of Dak's spring. He showed he has all the talent necessary to be a true dual-threat, a passer who can take off and beat you with his legs, but he's just not there yet. He had a gorgeous, perfect touchdown pass to Clark, but he also hit two defenders between their numbers for picks because he got fooled by the zone (or just never read it). Whereas Russell is to the point where he simply reacts to the defense he sees, Dak is still in the thinking stage. This leads to the ball coming out too slow sometimes, which is really when he gets in trouble the most. Also, his release is a little inconsistent. Needs to work on tightening down those mechanics and that will be fixed. <div>
</div><div>However, comparing Dak to Relf is silly. Dak CAN become a legitimate SEC passer; Relf was never even close. Given another year or two to fully develop as a QB, Dak can be exceptional.</div>

But if we do the same in the Fall I will start to get worried. Russell has shown the propensity for getting hurt, so I think Dak will be starting at some point this year. I really hope Mullen doesn't not have "a package" for Dak like he didn't for Russell when Relf was the starter. I know working on extra things in practice diminishes how well you do your main thing, but it doesn't look like Dak is ready to be forced into a pocket passer role when his number will most certainly be called this year.

he wont be throwing it 30+ times. He will be running the zone read and making a few more throws than Relf could. It wouldnt be a tough switch- just scale back a little of throwing a work a little more on the run game. It's much harder to go from predominately run to more passing.

We'll be fine. Tyler wont be running much at all, so he is likely to stay healthier longer

it is easy to sit back there and pick people apart when you KNOW you aren't going to get hit, if you are a RS Jr that already has played SEC teams before

it is not so easy if this is your 2nd spring and you run to open up your pass and you are not allowed to run in the scrimmage ...the game has still not slowed down for dak, but we would rather think we know what we have in a rs fr qb rather than him have to show us in a meaningless game where he could get hurt.

the spring game in not setup to run our offense, it is to not get anyone hurt and force people into situations where they might get hurt. If you remember last year with Relf, Russell, Dak, and Favre ...Russell and Relf only played like 1 maybe 1.5 quarters of continuous running clock and even then they only ran the ball like 10 times among both of them.

If Dak is forced into action due to injury, I honestly don't see Mullen keeping him in the pocket. Also, I'm kinda relieved in a way that he didn't put up big numbers in the scrimmage. If a redshirt freshman who has not taken a meaningful snap yet was lighting up our defense then it's going to be a long @*$@@#$ year.
