Do yourself a favor and upgrade from the Edsel to the Lamborghini.

The Samsung Galaxy S is a badass phone.

Sports related: the large AMOLED display and 1GHz processor make it much easier to keep track of scores, and the web browser loads The Pack just fine (just browsed; haven't posted).

and am probably going to pull the trigger sometime this week. Sales Rep said that the retail stores only got 30 each so they'll likely go in a couple of days. Also, if you order online and ship to your house you can avoid having to fool with the $50 mail in rebate and get an instant one. The only drawback is that I had anticipated them offering a buy one- get one deal similar to the Desire so to keep my wife from bitching but don't think I can hold out.

If they are only getting 30 per store I'd say supply is probably severely limited right now. These devices really are awesome and I'm sure after the New Year they'll have some of the same promos they ran with the Hero and Desire.

My wife has the desire and I have played around on it some and really like it, but was waiting to see how the galaxy compared to the desire...

There is another shipment coming in tomorrow so supply shouldn't be a problem.

And for the person who asked, the Samsung >>> Desire. Samsung makes the best screens in the business and the internal memory is MUCH higher on the Galaxy than the desire. The Desire is 10x better than the Hero and the Galaxy is probably 5x better than the Desire.

I don't have any idea when CS will run the buy one get one free but I would guess it will be shortly after retail season (Jan 1st). I could be wrong.
They might have a deal for black friday but again I haven't heard about the Galaxy. I do know the desire will have a deal on black friday.

Samsung also has the Samsung Media Hub where you can purchase or rent music and movies (and stream them to your TV if you have the right setup).

been waiting on this one for over 2 months now, the screen is the best I have ever seen on any phone. Best Android phone out for sure. <div>
</div><div>Hope they still have one left today, I heard the same thing you did, they are selling them as fast as they come in.</div>

But still found it to be a great little phone. Very responsive and it has the HTC Sense user interface which is nice. But like everyone is saying the display on the Galaxy is really what sets it apart. If you're not afraid to spend the money then go with the Galaxy.

is this true? if so, can they run stuff like Excel and dB programs?

are theyat riskto viruses when you surf?

They can with a Citrix setup but you can't run Excel and DB stuff just on the phone. It's not a PC. They like to say that because a good percentage of office environments run on Citrix now and you actually can connect using a smartphone and do everything you can do in the office. Albeit slower, less reliably, and on a tiny screen.

I don't know much about the smartphone world. I have a refurbished BB Curve. I don't like it. Anyway, I'm in the market for a new phone. So, was hoping someone could answer some questions:

1) I have ATT. The Samsung Galaxy has different names for different service providers ("Captivate" "Vibrant" "Mesmerize" etc.) The one for ATT is called the "Captivate" and "Focus". Are these phones different from the Galaxy S? If so....
2) When was the Galaxy S released and how much is it?
3) Is it that much different/better than the Captivate or Focus.
4) Is it that much better than an iPhone? My wife has a macbook, so all of my music is on iTunes. Will the Samsung let me put my music from iTunes on the phone?

/not very tech savvy
//would really appreciate some help

THey are all the same. The only one different is the new Samsung Contiunuum (sp).
.
2) When was the Galaxy S released and how much is it? I believe just about all carriers are charging 199. The larger carriers have had it for several months, CS just released it Monday.

3) Is it that much different/better than the Captivate or Focus. See above, they are the same just branded differently for each carrier.

4)

Do you have the iPhone 3 or 4? If 3 then yes, if 4 then it's probably about equal.
There is an app called DoubleTwist (sp) that is basically an iTunes for android that will work with mac or pc.
