As it tracked northeasterly, it got much closer, say within 2-3 miles at its closest point.

in a town that small is incredible. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the same tornado that devastated smithville. The damage that tornado did is just shocking.

The Smithville and Hackleburg tornadoes were both EF5s but they were two different tornadoes. The Hackleburg one is the one that also decimated Phil Campbell, which is northeast of Hackleburg. I drove through Hackleburg on Friday on the way to Starkville and back through it up to Athens today and it was quite sobering. It's going to be hard for Hackleburg to rebound from this and remain a viable community.

It sure made me feel like spending 5 days without power was a minor inconvenience compared to what they went through.
