Which highlights the first mistake made by the PGA of America - deviating from the task force.

SMH

I'm still concerned how Keegan used Morikawa/English in foursomes. Was he stubborn or did our analytics people have their heads in the sand?
That is a glaring question and one that nobody has provided an answer for…even anonymously…yet

I’m honestly leaning it was an analytics decision. It seemed an odd pairing in the first place, and to run them back out on day 2… we’ll, that’s not an “eyes” decision

Not sure how the pairing came about, but I read somewhere he put them out on day 2 for consistency.

Saw the Skins game was back this year. JT, Xander,Fleetwood and I forgot the 4th. It’ll be on Amazon prime on Black Friday. Rules are modified so each player starts with a huge bag and goes up and apparently down from there. The article wasn’t clear on that.
I always like these kind of events where you see all the shots. Would have been nice to pull Tiger for a one day event, he wouldn’t be worse than Jack was when he was playing the Skins game at the end there.

Where are they playing it?

I live on the course that hosted it 20 years ago. Supposedly we tried to get it back but I never thought that was likely.

Panther National in Florida. Looks like a relatively new course built by Jack and Justin Thomas (his first course). I don't know anything about it.

Are you at PGA West or Big Horn? I've long wanted to play those courses. I don't know where else it was played.

Youtubers like Bob Does Sports and Good Good have played quite a few rounds on video at Panther National in the past if I remember correctly. Nice place.

Those youtube golfers do love them some Florida. Obviously great golf there, but it's intolerably hot for so much of the year, I just don't think I could deal with it.

That’s why you only go from January through March.

An excellent week for David Ford out in Utah, as he birdied the last to finish in a six-way tie for T3 and earn $260,250. That was by far the best finish and purse of his young career, and the end-of season break (and weaker fields) seem to have served him well as he's now made two consecutive cuts after missing 7/8 to start his career.

As an aside, Black Desert is just a modern marvel on TV and I wish they would move that tournament to a more prominent place on the schedule as part of the west coast swing. There's enough Mormon money to figure out a way to make it a Signature Event, if the PGA really wanted to. All sports' first priorities should be geared towards the television audience in current times, and prime time at Black Desert would be an awesome viewing experience. At a minimum, move it to earlier in the week so you're not competing with football eyeballs. There's no law that a golf tournament has to finish on Sunday. I'd love to watch the final round from 5-9PM on a Wednesday night on the east coast.

Having formerly lived in Las Vegas, and routinely made the short trip up to Mesquite and St George to play golf, I can attest that there are a bunch of really great golf courses in that area. Wolf Creek, Conestoga, Black Desert, Sand Hollow, etc. It's a sleeper area for a great golf trip. You're also right there at Zion National Park, which would be a great addition to any trip.

To get OGR points, I bet they need the tournaments to be open. IE, Monday qualifier.

Joseph LaMagna had a pretty amusing take on this development in today's The Fried Egg newsletter...

The LIV Golf League, the first organization to professionalize playing golf in shorts to the soundtrack of Bruno Mars’ biggest hits, has taken yet another step towards reinventing the sport as we previously knew it. On Tuesday, the league announced that it will expand its format from 54 holes to 72 starting in 2026.

Bloomberg’s Matt Levine – one of the great thinkers and newsletter authors of our time – often writes that cryptocurrency is merely rediscovering traditional finance. A new upstart technology, unencumbered by the inefficiencies and norms of the status quo, is on a mission to revolutionize the financial world. Along the way, it repeatedly encounters the same problems that traditional finance already solved, ultimately realizing why certain practices and guardrails are in place. It doesn’t take much imagination to draw a parallel to what’s unfolding in professional golf.

“This (format change) is a win for the league, and the players,” Jon Rahm said. “Moving to 72 holes is the logical next step that strengthens the competition.”

Looking ahead, other logical next steps might include ditching the shotgun start format, eliminating the team competition altogether, and adding a cutline – innovations that could truly usher in the next frontier of championship golf.

Nice win for Griffin. I’m not sure what the value of the fall (/silly?) season tournaments are, but winning leads to winning.

Well, the exact value for Griffin was a nice little $1.08M payout.

David Ford also made another cut and took home $23K with a T40 finish.

That is a nice payout. I was thinking more along the lines of Presidents cup standings and all that sort of thing.

I don't know about those, but it did move him up two spots in the DataGolf rankings to 5th in the world. I'm sure that's the highest a Heel has been since whenever DL III was last in the Top 5 of the OWGR.

It looks like he also moved up three spots to 9th in the OWGR (or will once they recalculate).

Asheville tourney is nice. Might have to make a visit for that one.

Counting down the days until Llamapalooza at Talamore (23). 3 rounds, 2 nights, countless beers, and a new Scotty Cameron,

Victor Perez has jumped ship to LIV. Not sure what the tour will do now.

This is the first I'm learning that Victor Perez wasn't already on LIV. I wondered why the Saudi Prince was visiting the U.S. this week but it all makes sense now. They needed to bring in the Big Whale to secure Perez's commitment.

Had a golf marathon of sorts from Sun-Wednesday. In order played:

  1. The Preserve - my home course, in really great shape right now
  2. Chapel Ridge - similar conditions/not quite as nice as The Preserve but a whole lot easier
  3. Hasentree - just a treat all around, great conditions and the whole scene was fun
  4. Talamore - always fun but I was cracked out after playing 4 days in a row/drinking some beers at the Hasentree bar the night before

Gonna take the rest of the week to detox from golf, wont' have many weeks better than this one.
