I can see that kind of strategy going either way. You stand to get yourself up big on an opponent or down big. The Achilles heel for us is that it still involves special teams play. You gotta be able to execute an on-side kick which our 'shoddy FG kickers' would probably not be good at.
Regarding the always go for it on 4th down, maybe this is addressed in the video (i haven't watched it) but, it seems to me that this would be based on how much you need to get and field position. 4th and 10+ in your territory or 4th and 5+ inside your 20 does not seem like a good gamble to me. I also don't think this would work as well with the size and speed difference in CFB.
He actually does talk about 4th downs in his own territory (4th and 7 on his own 5 yrd line) and still going for it. He has a statistical approach to it and it is quite interesting actually.
