If we're down to our 3rd string QB next year, we're screwed anyway. It won't matter who it is. Plus, it's nice to say we just want to add QB, but who are you going to drop? We've got about 3 spots left and the following still being recruited:

Richie Brown
Beniquez Brown
Channing Ward (doubtful)
Anthony Alford
Jeremy Liggins
Alonzo Moore

We've been recruiting several of those guys for over a year. They'll have a spot on signing day.

Mullen has stated over and over.He will fit his offense around the strength of the players.I believe Russell will have a better yr in 2012.(1) He will have good pass catching rb's,(2)TE'S should be a mismatchagainst most teams and our receivers will be avg.I'M not expecting Morrow to be a gamechanger next yr.I do like his size and i'm glad he will be another option but,I would be surprised if he had a breakout yr and became the GO TO receiver we have all been waiting for. We will probably have another middle of the road SEC offense next yr with better passing numbers and worse rushing numbers.I hope Prescott can be our Redzone QB or I think we will struggle in RedZone scoring again next yr.

We'll should be able to get a JUCO or HS walkon who will serve as an adequate 3rd stringer for one year. (Wallace, Williams, or kid from LA..starts with a B)

The last thing we need to do is use one of our 25 scholarships on a guy like that. I have no problem, however on them coming in as a prefered walkon and earning one of he 85 spots next year.

Can't really explain the changes from 2010 to 2011 other than I guess they felt we needed to do something different due to changes on the o-line.

I feel like we'll throw the ball more. Mullen has said always he likes to have a balanced offense ---but he's also said he loves to run the ball too. Historically his QBs have run at least 10-15 times per game. Russell is not suited to run the ball that many time a year. So either we drastically reduce the times our QB runs the ball, or we get Dak involved about 15 snaps per game.

Ithink Mullen also has got to find a way to get our receivers more involved. Problem is we don't really have playmakers at that position, and our completion % is too low. If you throw 35 times a game but only complete18 of them...you've basicallywasted 17 plays (or about 25% of your total plays per game). Smith & Clark are very dependable receivers, but they aren't going to do much after the catch. This is where Bumphis & Carr were supposed to help out. Unfortunately that hasn't worked out & I don't know a quick fix. Until we find either a true dual threat QB, or a Percy Harvin /Dexter McCluster type playmaker, this offense is not going to move the way we all hoped it would. Nobody this year createdthat mismatch that the spread thrives on. HopefullyLewis, Malcolm Johnson, Dak, Josh Robinson will turn into the guys this offense really needs.

I will say I'm satisfied with what Mullen has done considering the lack of talent we had when he arrived, but it's also on him now to get the players he needs for this offense to be more explosive. I don't see that happening in 2012 unless Russell &upperclass WRs take a huge step forward.

Losing three of our best lineman from '10 set our running game and passing game back. Add the loss of those three to the fact that our WR's all seem to be 5'10" and run 4.6 40s. Relf seemed to not be the same after the Auburn game. I thought Tyler played good against South Carolina and had a nice drive or two against Alabama. Hope Morrow is what we have been reading he will be. We need a WR to go make some plays and adding Morrow in with Malcolm Johnson will hopefully open up the other.
What is Tobias's status for next year?
C34 wont agree but I am anxious to see what Tyler does with it being his team finally. Whether its him or Prescott, I like one qb that is the leader of the team and the everyone feeds of off.

...Quarterback is the most important position on the team. I believe Russell is the best QB on our team and has been for 2 years. If I were forced to cut one of our returning players, he'd be the last I'd cut. Maybe he's not a better QB than Whitley is a safety, but id rather have him than anyone else.

Give me poise, decision-making and toughness over raw athletic ability every time. Especially at QB.

PS - I am not related nor have ever met TR. Just going off what I've seen.

we have to master the quick look in/ quick slant for short to medium range 3rd down conversions and red zone situations. Not having that in the playbook is a major liability. Especially with Russell under center. Also, on the third string qb situation, what is the deal with Forrest Williams? Has he committed anywhere else? Didn't we offer a grayshirt? Could he be 3rd String option?

Why even have more than about 50 scholarship players anyway then? Cause if we're down to 3rd string players at any position, we're in some real trouble. We're a hell of a lot less screwed if we're down to a QB with JUCO experience (who even spent a year at a Div. I-A program) than we are with a true freshman walkon or Bumphis/Lewis at QB. Yeah, we're in trouble either way, but at least we'd be giving ourselves a chance. Who says we only have 3 spots left? You're assuming that we won't drop any of the others for grade and/or injury issues. In our position, if a halfway decent JUCO QB isn't one of the top 25 guys we can sign, we've just had one hell of a signing class.

I watched replays of a majority of our games this year, and many times we had guys open, but Relf wouldn't throw them the damn ball. If the guy wasn't running a verticle or a come back route, Relf was too scared to cut it loose. It was almost like he was scared to let it go unless it was wide open because he didn't want to throw a pick. Our WR's definitely don't run the best routes and they appear to be poorly coached, but the talent is there and they DO get open. But as long as we have a guy that is scared to let it rip because he thinks coach will pull him for the back up we will never be a decent passing team. That's the most frustrating part of the two QB thing to me...A guy like Russell, and Relf too, will play better if they get into the flow of the game and know that the coach has confidence in them leading the team into the end zone. Imagine what Russell thought when he marched us down to the red zone and then Mullen throws Brows in there at QB. I think RUssell is more than capable of being our best all around QB ever if he is given the play calls, coaches confidence, and drives to do it.

And for those that think we need Dak to be our red zone guy next year...why? What makes you think Russell can't lead us to TD's in the red zone? He never got the chance bc we always put in our running QB to stall the drives. Maybe i'm in the minority on this one though. Hell, Russell led us to a few scores when he had the chance. He threw a great ball to Green who went up and got it for the TD, and then he threw a strike to Chris Smith for a TD but he dropped it for an INT. He has proven in minimal opportunities that he can play in the red zone. But 17 it, we will always have to have a "running QB". I'm sure Dak will be good and I hope so too, but we sure as hell better start recruiting better O-linemen and more of them every year if we're always going to be pounding our QB into Bama, LSU, and the rest of the SEC.

Sorry for the Bruiser-length post

Why ask us uninformed idiots that you look down on with every post. Your the former coach that has something to say about everydecision made by the coaching staff in any sport. Why don't you go out on a limb and predict what will happen and we will see in September. If Russell is not our top player, you name the player.

from what we saw already when russell was the starter this year. he will throw it more than relf and still run the ball some. i don't want that to be the case but i think it will be.
