I remember Jenkins making a one handed TD snag in that dreadful Maine game. Probably one of the best catches in the history of Mississippi State football. Anybody else remember that catch?

he graduated the year before. Maybe it was McKinley Scott. I've put most of that game in the deleted section of my mind. All I remember about that game was I was kind of numb, pissed off, I listened to the coaches show for some kind of explanation and I didn't really get a satisfactory one- I have no idea what I was looking for out of that though- and I remember listening to Dee Snider's House of Hair as I got back to Jackson in about an hour and a half.

I do remember Jenkins did make an incredible one handed catch one year in a game we lost that we were not suppose to lose. I thought it was the Maine game but it wasn't.

I still can't believe we lost. We had twice as many first downs, and we only had one more turnover than they did. We had over 100 more yards in total offense. Didn't we turn the ball over twice inside the 20? And I remember Prosser got called for offensive pass interference, which I thought was questionable.

Also, Steve Shaw did that game? Wow.

I'd be willing to bet that game has to at least be in the top 5 offensive performances yardage wise of the Croom tenure.

One of Croom's best quotes was that he expected us to lose that game because Maine had more talent. He probably should have been canned right there.

Yep. Fred Reid fumbled it out of the back of the endzone for a turnover/touchback. Another time late in the game, I believe, one of our receivers caught a deep ball and the Maine defender had his hands on the ball too. Our guy hit the ground and the Maine defender ripped the ball out of his hands after he was down and they called it an interception.

Still no excuse for losing that game. Croom should have been fired the next damn day. We waited far too long to pull the trigger on that. +!!% you LT you #+!@!%% pile of ****. +!!% you for making us suffer so #+!@!%% long.

Okay, I'm done now.

From a Q/A with Gene dated July 14, 2007.

What about the record of your team the first three years?
"Really, from a record standpoint, I think we are about where I thought we would be. The amazing thing about it is the first two years we weren't competitive, we were not a good football team. I remember when people were so upset when we lost to Maine. When I looked at the film that week, I knew that Maine was a better football team than us. To be honest with you, I was surprised the game was as close as it was. I really was because I thought we were going to get beat two touchdowns. We were really that bad. Those first two years, that was where we were. We were not an SEC football team."</p>

I thought I had blocked out that game, but now the memories come flooding back. Omarr threw an interception in the end zone in the first half, Reed fumbled it out the back of the end zone on I think first and goal late in the game that set up Maine's winning touchdown drive. And my favorite, Connor throwing deep to Prosser in the third quarter. Prosser was about 25 yards behind the Maine defense and Omarr hit him right in stride. Of Course, Prosser fell down as he caught the ball and then dropped it. Good times.

That was it! I was thinking Maine...but it must have been Troy State in 01. Good call.

I saw the play last night. I noticed he pointed up at the lights or something else immediately after getting up from his dive. Always was an excuse for that guy. I am suprised he is still floating around the NFL.

I did the research ...

Games more than 374 yards in the Croom era.

Arkansas 2007 - 501 yards
Tulane 2007 - 489 yards-
Murray State 2005 - 482 yards
Arkansas 2008 - 445 yards
Kentucky 2006 - 408 yards
Georgia Tech 2008 - 407 yards
SE Louisiana 2008 - 401 yards
Kentucky 2005 - 375 yards

Maine 2004 - 374 yards (9th)

In five years, we broke 400 yards exactly seven times. Two of those games were against Division I-AA teams and another one was against the worst Tulane team in history. Three of the games were less than 10 yards from being under 400.

I need to throw up.

Back corner of the endzone, west side. He elevated above everyone falling backwards and snagged it, and it wasnt a lob pass - it was a dart. It was one of the best catches I have seen at State.

We beat Florida because Croom is an awesome coach. We lost to Maine because we sucked. (Croom logic here)

That's the catch I'm talking about. I'm glad someone else remembers it. I wish it was on youtube or something. If it would have been against another SEC team or a televised game I bet you it would be on the 50 Best Catches of All Time television program.

Reid didn't fumble it out of the back. It was just inside the corner of the endzone. He was running for the pylon trying to score w/ a Maine Bear hot on his tail. But he lost the ball on about the 1 foot line. The ball went forward and barely made it into the front corner of the endzone until it went out of the side. It was only in the EZ for about one or two feet. Right?

Or am I remembering it wrong?
