Article in McHenry County Sports about the conference eliminating sophomore football due to declining numbers. Instead there will be frosh/soph A and B teams along with JV and varsity levels.

Will be interesting to see who follows something similar in nature.

Sophomore football is pretty much gone in the new Northern Lake Cty conference. The combined frosh/soph thing is here to stay.

Here in the MSL they took away sophomore football last year. It was fresh A and B then Jv then Varsity. The only new thing was that juniors were allowed to play on the 'JV' team. Palatine, Barrington, and Fremd didn't bring any juniors down in our games(might have changed this year at Fremd or Bar). Most other MSL schools did bring down a couple of Juniors. We also kept our Varsity B team which played on Saturdays.

I guess it is what one calls it and how it is put into practice. Isn't it really eliminating freshmen football, since it is now fr/so. I know one coach stated only playing fr, but others won't.

That's interesting to know Smitty2588. I watched all the JV games at Palatine this year and the JV squad was all sophs and I figured it was more a renaming thing(old JV is Varsity B and old soph is JV) than an actual change like that.

Actually makes me feel a little better about the JV's year knowing we had all sophs going against potentially juniors from other schools. I know that JV squad didn't win alot, but I think they have some very good individual players who should plug and play well next year.

Other states have been doing it this way for years. Gets juniors playing time, along with your good sophs. Better for the sport. JV games become even more important. Better for the game.

How long until a school like Huntley starts looking for a new home? Their enrollment is more than DOUBLE the average Fox Valley school and it is becoming a major detriment for a lot of their athletes that are not getting a chance to play due to most of their conference opponents are not even able to field Sophomore or Freshmen B teams. Huntley can literally field 2 or 3 complete teams at each level while other schools are lucky to field a single team.

The remains of the DVC are looking for schools!! Longer commute for Huntley but lots of benefits for all level competition in all sports!!

With the exception of Glenbard West, JV games are treated similar to a 5th quarter in Frosh Football.

My experience is that this varies widely from school to school. Sometimes it is a 5th quarter-like scrimmage, other times a full-on game.
