At first, it looked pretty outlandish. Now, either he's off to Columbia, or he's just trying to give K-State's AD a massive heart attack. I wonder if it's too late for Andy Katz to call and direct him to Starkville, MS.

"Kansas State's Frank Martin will be hired as South Carolina's basketball coach, sources close to the situation have confirmed.

The USC Board of Trustees has scheduled a conference-call meeting for 10 a.m. on Tuesday to discuss a "contractual matter." The Board has to approve Martin's contract before any official announcement is made.

As of noon on Monday, USC had not announced a press conference to introduce Martin, according to a USC spokesperson. When Darrin Horn was hired in 2008, the Board met at 11 a.m. before introducing Horn two hours later.

A source within USC's administration confirmed to GamecockCentral.com that a contract was sent to Martin on Friday, but had not been signed and returned. Martin was in New York on Saturday and Sunday helping with TV analysis of the NCAA tournament.

The contract has apparently been signed and returned."

Yeah, I read that. It all still sounds so...strange. He wanted the Miami job last year, which was understandable since he's from down there, but this move...perhaps relations are just so fractured with John Currie that he just wants out. And hey, maybe he's intrigued by the idea of taking on a real challenge like SC. He recruits a lot of Florida players, so a plus for him is that his trips will now be a lot shorter.

The eventual implosion of the Big 12 will put them in the Mountain West. Get out while you can.

I feel like Iowa State and Baylor are probably C-USA bound when all is said and done. Unless of course, Texas legislators interfere like they did last time, Baylor is screwed.

disparaging the ncaa is never a good idea but nothing will come of that; they will just remember those remarks if an investigation does arise. Overall very good hire.
