Franklin had to be fired and it had to happen now. You cannot allow his continued presence to drive the fan base away and destroy recruiting. That would be a compete disaster. It would take Penn State may years to recover from that.

At this point, I would like to see Penn State make an all out effort to get Cignetti. He has Pennsylvania roots and knows the state well. And knows many of the state’s top coaches and programs. Whether he would leave Indiana at this point would likely be a tough sell but at this point make the try anyway.

Ouch, I understand the frustration, but think about where we were when he first got here. We were in the depths of the abyss.
He got us out of the depths. He brought back to PSU a level of recruiting that should be happening at Penn State. He rebuilt the program and got us on a trajectory toward getting up-to-date with a lot of things a top program needs.

We all know his shortcomings and he simply was not going to get us any further on the field at this point. His greatest asset—his ability to recruit—actually started to slip a couple years ago. Over the last week or so, it became clear that this was the beginning of the end of the relationship. But at least let’s respect what he did for us over the years.

See my post in another thread about this. Highly unlikely according to XM guys this morning.

Teams don’t just quit on a coach, they often quit on each other. Sure seems like this is the case.

I dont' think they quit on each other, rather, they no longer buy into the program and what the coaches are trying to do.

IIRC- Players now have a 15 day transfer portal that begins 5 days after the new coach is hired.
Good. Hopefully, most of the gutless, passionless players who contributed to this disaster and have no terminal loyalty to PSU will leave and contribute nothing to their new programs. It’s obvious that there was something seriously wrong with the culture of that program this season.

I don't know why people seem to think Cignetti is the target--if you want an unrealistic target so you can be mad ask for Smart or Lanning

He’s probably as relieved as his detractors.
It’s just part of the business.
If he’s smart, he’ll take his cash and find a high school team and do some volunteer coaching. Get out of the rat race that college football has become.

So. Now, recruiting both the current roster AND the committed/prospective recruits will be the focus of the future staff. That will not be easy.
That’s what all head coaches have to do with this portal crap. A lot of egos to massage . NFL makes more sense if you have the option .

I don't think Penn State is interested in Cignetti either--it's mutual
Cignetti has a grudge against PSU based on his father's feud with Paterno when he was a coach at IUP. The grudge carried forward to his sons. Probably not happening but everyone has their price right? I think we need someone younger.

The environment up there yesterday was toxic, and I’m sure that the mega donors demanded that Kraft do this. When a program loses the mega donors, it’s over.
Sadly, in this new environment, you are correct.

People feeling sorry for Franklin - he’s going to kill it on a pregame show before you know it. Yuck it up for a lot of dough with none of the stress except knowing what camera to look into.

That’s the job he was made for
He does a nice job building a program from the bottom up. VT or UNC make a lot of sense. The pregame gig sounds good but he is still young and probably will have the motivation to try and prove everyone wrong.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he's secretly relieved. There's no way he could look at the current roster and next class coming in and think it was national championship caliber. The noise about him not being able to get it done would have just gotten louder and louder each year going forward.
