I think when they drafted Marcus Lattimore, the writing was on the wall.
On the flip side, his lack of carries in SF might add a year or two onto his career.

Dixon's situation (to me) is like Diaz going to TX
I think if Dixon would stick for a couple more years, he would have a shot at competing with Latimore for the job with more carries (and as much as I hate to say, I will have to see Latimore stay healthy for a couple of seasons before I feel like he is the future). And, as much as I like Dixon, I don't see him being a star #1 RB with any team. So, in the end, you are going from SF (title chance) to TN (no chance) for a few more carries. And he is loved in SF by the fans.

As much as it pains me to speak in Croom's defense, CJ was already headed downhill before he got there. Still, it's too bad Croom gets another shot at him after Mullen barely had a chance to fix him after the first go round.
I think SF greatly undervalued Dixon, I mean he was on the verge of not making the roster this past season. I think he'd be a solid backup anywhere in the league, and I hope he gets that chance somewhere. In SF he was simply the 3rd or 4th string RB who occasionally got the short yardage carries.
You probably don't see Dixon as a #1 RB
because you'll never see him get over 10 carries a game again. Not even sure if he has ever been the full time starter

Dixon was never going to be the starting back for SF. James, Hunter, or Lattimore as far as I know are all still there and for some reason would probably given the chance before AD. I'm glad he's going somewhere else, where he can have a new start and opportunity.
He proved himself to be a versatile value at the end of last season. He proved he could play FB in a pinch, catch the ball and be a good goal line RB. As this article stipulates, he will be in a 4 RB battle in TN as well. He got paid $600k last season in SF. Unless he was demanding a lot of money, they would gladly pay that to keep him on the roster for his special teams ability.

I love Dixon. He's a good NFL back. He's never going to be a #1 NFL tailback. He chance to be a true starting RB in the NFL would be to continue to work to become a FB. The 49ers were an opportunity for that. They were not having their #2 FB back and its a very vital role in their offense. Plus, being part of the 'mix' for a starting RB position means that position is going to be up for grabs each year.
Croom got Fired
When the titans fired Munchak they cleaned house fired everyone on the coaching staff including Croom and Greg Williams who i thought as a titan fan they should of kept
So do not fear croom will NOT be coaching Dixon if he comes to the titans which would make up for us signing DMC and balance it out.

Dixon was never going to be a #1 or #2 back in SF. Every one of the backs they had on roster were better.
I love Dixon as much as the next guy, but he's just not going to be as good as we all want him to be. He's a better version of Fred McAfee, and there's no shame in making your paycheck on your special teams abilities and locker room leadership.
He'll land on his feet somewhere because of those qualities. Less so his 3rd and short carries.
His style of play was best suited for the NFL 10 years ago.

Exactly my point. But why not stay in SF and do what you can to be a part of a winner. I am a Niners fan so I am of course selfish in that I want him to stay. But, I also hate to see him go to a loser and just get lost and out of the league in a couple of years. The Niners would make a place for him at his current rate. They just aren't going to pay him $1.5M for a special teams/3rd string RB. $650k, they make a spot. That is what I mean by the Diaz comparison. Would you rather make $1M per year for 3 years or $650k-850k for 5 years
I wish New England would sign Boobie. If Legarrette Blount can shine there, then imagine what Dixon could do. I just want him to play for a winning team that will use him. He's become one of my favorite Bulldogs ever and I really wish he'd get a real shot to show what he can do somewhere. Pro sports is as much about finding the right spot as it is about talent.
Blount is bigger than Boobie and is faster than Boobie, so the argument that if he can make it there Boobie can isn't necessarily valid. It would be better to say, "If Brandon Bolden can get PT there..."
