What irritates me is this was easy to see coming. There are quite a few that never see it. Same thing with Calipari. Coach lovers who buy in too deep to the point where they can’t see it. I mean Stoops had clearly maxed here. I remember thinking don’t resign him that’s as far as he can go, have him resign the position and let him leave with a solid legacy here. Stoops is not a career SEC grade coach, he needs to be in the ACC or BIG12 and revive some dead programs in an easier conference. But what we do is we keep him far too long until he wheels fall off. These is vintage Barnhart, same thing with Tubby. Wanted to retain him into the wheels falling off.
I’m all for keeping coaches for legacy plays and I think the coaching chaos is ridiculous. It hurts the sport, but a program like UK must make smart moves to continue progress and Mitch always kills the gains. He did it with Brooks by hiring Joker, he’s done it with Stoops. Kentucky can’t afford to kill all of the gains someone makes, you have to know when to cut it, you have to make smart methodical moves after gains. We’re never going to see that as long as Barnhart is in charge.
