Going to be insane but I think it’s more likely that programs recycle just fired coaches than roll the dice on 2nd year coaches that improved enough this year to win 1 or maybe 2 conference games.
There may be too much personal history with freeze, but it’s possible freeze will be Ole Miss’s best option to replace kiffin. Be interesting to see how they’d react to that.
ETA: ole miss could hire freeze dirt cheap and let auburn mostly pay him, then take the savings and the $4M (I think) buyout for kiffin leaving and really put some money towards NIL to help freeze out.

I wonder how much goes on now during the year in preparation for a new coach. Like, maybe it’s better to fire midyear because you can start putting together packages for all the players you want from a decent coach’s team. Wonder if the roster factors into the coach decision these days
If he was fired, the he should be the buyout the contract that both parties signed should be paid. If he just "stepped down", he shouldn't get anything unless the contract called for it.

Anyone else think Auburn is about to get a reality check as to where they stand in the SEC / Big 10 pecking order? They’re not going to compete with schools like LSU, Florida & Penn St for a coach. And Kiffin to Auburn which seemed reasonable just 3 years ago would be laughable today.
