They are doing well in state early, no doubt...
Two of their early "commits" have already commented that they are going to be looking around and that their recruitments are far from over though. Given what we know about Mullen, it's safe to say that he wouldn't have accepted those commitments early in the process, so it's impossible to say that they are outrecruiting us in MS yet. We'll know alot more from our camp in June. OM classes under Freeze will always be a rollercoaster ride for this reason IMO. They finished with a tremendous class last year(and I take NOTHING away from them on it), but had a whole bunch of decommitments through the year -- probably had close to 40 players committed at one time or another. So, if that's an indication, I don't think you can really look at these guys and say "oh crap" just yet.
They are DEF going to get Buford. And I don't know anything about the new OL commitment. The other 2 are nowhere near sure things.
4(really 5) of the top 10 in MS this year are in MSU strongholds, whereas 4 of the top 10 were considered OM locks early in the process last year -- and basically only 1 or 2 fell in MSU strongholds(Chris Jones obviously after the season)...and Shump to an extent...

I said early last recrootin season that if we split Shumpert and Conner with Ole Miss, we'd done our job. Obviously we all knew where Conner was headed, so for the late person that meant we had to sign Shumpert. He's a prototypical MSU type player. We got him and pretty much every other instate prospect we planned to get, except Mix. Who knows the real story there. And for all the worrying about flippin' n ****, we really did win the battle instate, even with losing Kailo Moore. Probably will again this year.

engie, this early i don't expect any kid to refuse to talk with other schools, but these kids at this point use the word solid. buford and hampton are ole miss kids and say they are solid. the olineman used that word as did taylor. i haven't read anything about the punter "looking". so with the caveat that its a long time till feb 2014, keep hoping.
Yeah Hampton grew up an OM fan. That's why he committed last year. I don't know where Paul gets that stuff but he's way off. When you start flipping kids from Freeze then threads like this have some validity, but good lord
Paul and Farley have both reported that Hampton is the definition of a soft commit... He's telling them that. So, who knows?
Who would we have tried to flip last year? Ultimately, there were only about 6 players in-state really worth fighting over. The point in this thread has validity. IF you are going to rack up early soft commitments, you are going to lose a higher percentage of those guys...

I quit paying for that crap years ago and it's still very easy to see the momentum and/or makeup of the classes. Most of your commitments will stick most likely, but you can only go on the defensive when they commit early....remember that. The thing that sucked about Chris Jones wasn't that he was considering Ole Miss....it was that we thought we had him in the bag and thought we could move on to other prospects who weren't committed.

This makes no sense. You infer that we racked up the instate recruits last year and had to hang on to them in the end because ole miss had a good season.

Mississippi recruiting is largely going to be what it is, you can win the battle, but never the war. My point was, we were caught hanging onto our recruits because they committed early. The likelihood that they flip is much higher the earlier they commit to any school. Ole Miss is getting the early guys this year, so they'll be the ones suffering from 'flips' in January most likely.
The most domination I've ever seen instate is what we pulled off in 2009. Like 13 of the state's top guys. But that doesn't happen very often and they even still got a few guys, as did Bama.

Thank goodness for this thread. It had been almost a week or two since the last pissing match recruiting thread between our fans and the usual OM douche bags who were camped out here for literally all of December-January-early February. I was beginning to think I might not have the "pleasure" of reading another one until recruiting actually became a relevant topic again.
