"Having spoken with our players after the event occurred and reviewed the incident report, we are disappointed these unwarranted allegations are being directed at Denzel and Robert, and they have the full support of our team as they fight(lol see what I did there?) this matter.”

"...and if anyone has any information linking Denny Ray and Robert to these crimes please contact...huh? (Inauduble whispering)...uh...like I said we fully support these players."

Rock and a Hard Place, I would have played it the same way.

If you support the brothers and the case gets settled or they win then all is well. If you don't support the brothers then they squeal like pigs and off to probation land you go. This is really pretty simple and the only play they got.

If you'll pardon the tangent, are you at liberty to say (1) when the other bad news you've referenced is supposed to break, and (2) whether it relates to the rumored Deadspin article?

My general thoughts are (1) it will be related to the University's handling of the 'investigation' that took place following the crime and (2) I don't anticipate any deadspin article.

I have no idea on timing or whether it is true and will ever come out. One of

things passed along to me is fairly minor legally, but embarrassing to the program. The other tidbit would probably not be a problem legally but again embarrassing and would further the conversation that things are out of control, especially as it pertains to the big recruiting weekend each year.

For the record I think Freeze is a good guy, maybe too good of a guy. It is hard to balance being a father and friend to these buys, tough love isn't as easy as it sounds sometimes.

Once again the part about the $25,000 reward for information was forgotten, oh wait, that was for assaulting a statue, had nothing to do w/ assaulting a real person, stomping 2 people and sending them to the hospital. My bad wrong story..............

See, I feel UM did not need to do ANYTHING right now. If it was mid season, sure. You have to say something. But, for an event that took place a year ago, I would just leave this alone. Especially would not take the role of "We have researched this and know it to be false". I just do not think a law firm (in Memphis of all places)would take on mighty Ole Miss without thinking they had a case that would at least get them a settlement out of unemployed doctor daddy

I agree

They better hope this law firm isn't sitting on a pile of evidence right now

The proper response by the administration would be silence.

No reason to say anything.

I agree. Surprising the school has put out two pretty strong statements on this. Either they're damn sure there's nothing to this at all or they're in so deep they've got no choice but to stick to their guns.

You do have full discovery in civil trials. One side can't sit on evidence and not give it to the other side during discovery. The law firm obviously doesn't have to produce its evidence now when the suit is filed. But it will have to produce it during discovery.

I actually don't think Freeze or Bjork should be taking sides on this.

At the end of the day, somebody got beaten up pretty badly and no one went to jail for it. Why not just say that someone got hurt and we hope they are ok. No reason to be involved either way. Nothing they have to say will affect the outcome of the pending suit.

Maybe throw in there that we have spoken to DN and RN and they assure us that they were not involved.

The best way to handle it would not to have been to accept their version of events and reject the accuser, but to say that "We support our players and they are innocent until proven guilty. If we find that they have broken University or team rules, or have broken the law, they will be disciplined accordingly."

Also.....Why aren't the KA's trying to help find the person who beat up a member's friend on their property? Why are they not mad at UPD and the university for not further protecting their safety?

The girlfriend mysteriously disappears from the complaint as the "victims" moved toward the front. I thought that was interesting.

Yeah, if they were to hypothetically have, oh, I don't know, two separate videos of the attacks taken from cell phones? Yeah that wouldn't be the greatest of news for Team Nkemdiche.

Many of them were "friendly" with DK....so I am not surprised at all if they want to keep quiet.

With this statement out there, it's now a fireable-level scandal for Freeze if it turns out the brothers did it. He better be 100% sure...

Does Bjork's statement indicate Nkemdiches were accused from the beginning?

I thought nobody saw nothing. Maybe just odd phrasing.

“When this alleged incident occurred, the proper authorities investigated the matter and could find no evidence of wrong-doing related to Denzel and Robert Nkemdiche or any other members of our football program,” athletics director Ross Bjork said in a statement. “This is a personal matter for them and we will support Denzel and Robert while they defend themselves in this civil case.”
