If you tell people you went to Ole Miss rather than the University of Mississippi, and they aren't fans of the SEC, there's a chance they won't know the Ole Miss is in Mississippi or that it's a public school, so they may not automatically tag them with all the negativity associated with Mississippi.

If you were in the northeast or northwest and only paid attention to sec sports in the periphery, don't you think there's a decent chance you would assume that Ole Miss must be like Vanderbilt, a private school allowed in the SEC to pretend we care about academics, so that the other ten schools can focus on sports?

It doesnt even sound like something that would appeal to a kid who is thinking of a future in professional athletics.

Freeze might not be as virtuous as advertised, but he just doesnt fit the mold of the sentiment of that quote.

Here is what I dont understand. It's 17ing june. June. None of this **** means a damn thing unlil late november when the big school vultures come out.

I dont doubt the kid said it. I still question whether the sentiment was translated correctly.

However Freeze could have been talking about the type of major the kid wanted to graduate in, and not the validity or prestige of one school versus the other.

edited to add: I also think he might very well be talking about the validity of the degree. If one school's public perception is that it does a better job with that degree, he could be referring to that.

When I read the original comment from the kid, I hear "Freeze says that OM degree's are worth more than MSU degrees".

When I think about it, I remember that each school has it's strengths and those must be emphasized by recruiters athletic or not.
