In the article from the Oregon writer posted on this site there was mentioned a freshman player not happy with the idea of red shirting and he may leave. A linebacker I think. Wouldn't he now have to sit out a year anyway sine he has enrolled at NU? Anyone have any ideas as to who it is?

I think it's Adrienne Talan. Ferguson, Young, and Barry all seem destined to be second teamers.

Not sure if he'd ha e to sit out a year if classes haven't started. Could be wrong.

You got to do what's best for the team. If a RS year is best for him and he decides to leave, then so be it. All the ways it will hurt the team, you just can't do it.

If the coaches can sell the university they ought to be able to sell a RS but I can see whee a kid isn't keen on a RS this early into practices. Seems to me you might want to show him on film why it's in his best interest to RS.

If it were me I would never tell a kid they were going to redshirt. I think it can get them to lose focus and desire. I think you always dangle the carrot.

Could be because he knows his fate for the year before camp even started.

Talan and Barry have weight/strength issues, need red shirts, we'll see if they take them.

Honestly, I believe Barry and Talan, even at 6'2 205, are the ideal athletes to play special teams. I want those guys on my kickoff team. They are physical and have speed to burn.

Much the same as how Eric Martin made a name for himself at NU and now I think is still on an NFL roster in large part because of his special team play. Gotta have guys that can run and tackle on special teams. They can be game changers for sure.

Whoever it is, let's let it play out. The kid may be reacting badly to the reality of the situation and may just need time to settle in. Expectations are high, but then you get onto campus and find out college is like an all star team compared to what you're used to, with the only difference being that you don't know the playbook nearly as well and need to get bigger and stronger to play at this level. A resetting of expectations can be painful.

But, transferring accomplishes nothing, unless you're looking to go play at a lower level. Either way, you're not playing this year. Now, if the kid has a lousy attitude and doesn't learn to check it, then adios amigo, because the juice ain't worth the squeeze as DB is fond of saying and you will be pushed out.

It's entirely possible they've done that and he's not willing to see the forest for the trees.

That can backfire too. You leave them hanging all season and pretty soon, they're pissed because they never got in a game, even in mopup duty. The coaches should get credit for being straight shooters.
