Cool.

But I'll be the wet blanket here. Why is this such a big deal? A freshman walk-on scores before the eleventh game of the year. He's not local, he's not a senior, he isn't coming back from an injury. What am I missing?
I think it’s a big deal for the team. He practices everyday with the team and never sees any game time. And I’m sure he understands that he never will. So when he can get in and get a bucket even when these games are in hand it kinda pays him back for his commitment to the team.

That applies to every walk-on. I'm genuinely curious why it is such a big deal for a freshman walk-on to score in his first year with no apparent setbacks before Christmas break. James Long and Cameron Payne didn't get this much coverage. The last walk-on I can recall getting something even close to this was Ted Talkington.

I don't have any idea but the team sure does like it. Shows a togetherness that WVU hasn't had for sometime now. If the players are enjoying it the fans will get into it as well.

He's from northern Kentucky and was "Mister Basketball" in that b-ball crazed state last year. Bob has been recruiting that area since he was at Cincy and is on good terms w/ a lot of HS coaches there. It's simply a case of keeping your foot in the door in a region which is overrun with talent.

The kid was Mr. Basketball in Kentucky or something along those lines. Averaged like 30 points a game (maybe more) but had 0 offers from D-I schools - all he had were offers from schools along the lines of WVIAC schools. Bob and his mother go back to his days at Cincy. He ran into her at some function and she was telling him about her son. I think Bob thought she was kinda blowing her kid up to be more than he really was but she was adament. Bob told her he could always walk on at WVU - the door is open. So, he did and the rest is history.

That's about the gist of it I think.
