NFL Radio had two draft scouts on today talking about the draft and the
topic was SEC NFL guys.....said the player who has upped his stock the
most this season was MSU's OT Derek Sherrod....right now was a 2nd rd
guy but could very well move into the 1st rd by Draft times rolls
around.

Talked about the top 30 or so NFL prospects in the draft....Sherrod,Mcphee,and White were named...no KJ Wright.
I figured Sherrod was moving up because of his recent accolades. Dude has been a beast this season but I am kind of shocked about KJ. He seems to me he has the tools to be NFL and he has played exceptionally well this season.

At least he has the second half of the season to change the scouts minds. He certainly isn't lacking the ability

butallhe's shown in 3 yrs ispotential.

I don't see where this year is any different. Look at the stats. Nothing special. No sacks. 2.5 TFLs (just like Jeff Howie). I want to see him takeover a game, but that just hasn't happened and this was supposed to be a scheme where he would thrive.

he's been in position to make at least 4 interceptions this year and hasn't done it. that really could make or break it for him

Thats what I said on BDJ. If he makes 3 or 4 of those plays his value would probably double. He could be an NFL LB that can cover and play in space with 4 or 5 picks, but instead he isn't making those plays.

Another thing is that he's pretty thin. He needs to bulk up (which he probably just isn't able to do) if he wants to play OLB in the NFL.

As others have stated, KJ has tons of potential/upside. He just hasn't put it all together and made the big plays this year. I think 4 different DCs in 4 years has a lot to do with that along with the fact that the NFL is very much a pass happy league now, and OLBs get paid a lot of money to rush the QB and get sacks......which our defense just hasn't been good at this year. If he had 6 or 8 sacks and had come up with a few of those interceptions, we wouldn't even be having this discussion. Hopefully he'll be able tp get himself invited to the combine and impress the scouts there.

He is everywhere on defense and I think one of the most underrated players in the SEC.

He may not lay a big hit, but he makes the tackle and he takes great angles, and is one of the fastest LB's in the SEC. Like I said, Im just glad he is graduating.

As for KJ, I think he could maybe be a 3-4 OLB, but im not sure he is thick enough. He is built like Jason Taylor, but he is probably 25 pounds lighter than Taylor, and I don't think he can play with his hand down.

I know Croom bashing is in vogue, but Sherrod, McPee, and White all committed to Croom, and I expect all three names will be called before the 4th round ends. I bet that Brigone and Wright make rosters as well, or at least practice squads as well.

Actually, McPhee committed to Mullen.
And Sherrod brother played for State, that helped a lot.

The commitment train just keeps on going for the Mississippi State Bulldog program. Last week the Bulldogs picked up four commitments and now they have picked up another big one from Itawamba Community College defensive end Pernell McPhee. He pulled the trigger this weekend, but says it has been a long time coming.

"This has been coming for a while," McPhee said. "I have known for a couple of months now that Mississippi State is where I wanted to go. I just haven't come out and said it, but with the season coming up and everything I wanted to go ahead and get it out there. Coaches will be able to start calling again soon and I just wanted to stop all of that before it starts."

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound McPhee will graduate in December and enroll in classes in Starkville in January.

"I am completely 100-percent sold on Mississippi State," McPhee said. "I had plenty of offers, but I felt this was the best place for me. I only have two years to try and prove myself and take my game to the next level. I want to win championships and finish out my education at a good school and I felt like Mississippi State was the best place to do all of those things."

Last year McPhee collected 67 tackles, 37 tackles for loss and 19 sacks at his first year at Itawamba.

"Coach Croom told me when I committed that he was real happy about it," McPhee said. "He asked me if I was sure of my decision and I told him I was. He told me that this program is about to go to the next level and we were going to shock some people with how big we were going to win over the next couple of years. I hope that we can win an SEC championship in my time here."
Mullen should get credit for getting him to re-commit after Croom left, but McPhee was headed to MSU prior to Mullen arriving. I wasn't trying to say anything negative about Mullen, I just notice that when Cut left we bashed what he left, but he left a fairly talented team, and though Croom didn't leave as much talent, he had some talent in the fold when Mullen got here. Now Mullen has used that talent to take advantage of their strengths, something Croom couldn't do.

Well, I'm not glad that he's graduating, but he flies all over the field. He plays fast, which is key at MLB,and he is very good at reading what the offense is doing and beating them to the point of attack.

His size is good. It is the speed/quickness he lacks. He gets north and south but gets beat around the end some. I started to notice his speed when he had Ryan Mallet sacked last year. However, Mallet nearly faked Wright out of his shoes........YES Mallet. Then, Mallet stepped around him and threw a TD.
