Super Conference Mania (SCM) is alive and well in Tejas.UTA's true colors are being exposed asI type and drink my margarita.Gentlemen, they are waffling. How and why you ask. Why is the easy part. First the how-
They are going to consider keeping the Big 12 together. Seriously consider it. I thing it is 60/40 that they resurrect the Big 12 from the sleeping coma it is currently experiencing.
Here is the fun part- the why-
UTA got punked by TA&M and Mike Slive's magnificent "strategery"
UTA is leaning that SCM is quite a wonderful concept when you are in the drivers seat. But Slivehas used TA&M to box UTA into a corner. Go to the PAC and risk having A&M, OU and OSU leave for the SEC. Slive will take OSU in a New York second to get OU. OSU and OU do not have little brother schools (TT, Baylor ) holding them back from making a package deal. Add Mizzu and there you have your SEC SCM.
In the Dallas metroplex, I have not met one OU grad (I work with three grads) who wantsto go the PAC 16.I work with two OSU grads and they hate the thought of it.Texans do notwant to travel to the West Coast for a football game unless a Champioship is on the line. The longer this talk of PAC 16goes on the more active the alumni associations are becoming against the idea of the move to thePAC. (This is what immediatleyhurt TA&M to the PAC.) They are calling their alumni associations and expressing disapproval. Large monumental shifts must occur quickly or they often stall and fail. UTA underestimated TA&M plain and simple-
UTA, whohas always held themselves asintellectually superior totheir readneck brother to the east (sound familiar?)is being outplayed and it is beautiful to witness.
I would take TA&M by themselves but we could get fortunate here- or if the clock continues to tick slowly bye, the likelyhood is increasingthat theTexas legislature might shut down the entire thing.
It is a beautiful day in Texas-</p>
