Stansbury realized the program/fanbase was fractured and decided to step down. Makes me respect him even more if true.

He's a class guy and has been a great asset for our university for a long time. I really think that in 5 or 10 years people are going to appreciate all he's done more than they do today. The last few years have been frustrating, but he's had an outstanding career and he deserves to go outon a good note.

You could tell by his comments on his body of work over the 14 years that he wanted to stay. If true then it is a very rare person that will put his own ego and pride aside and do what he thinks is best for the school and program. He has always struck me as being a one of the nicest people you will ever meet. I saw him one day in Oby's trying to have a Sunday lunch with his family. I say trying because three college kids came up and started talking and stood there at his booth the entire time they were trying to eat and he never so much as hinted as wanting them to leave him and his family alone. Then there was the donation and phone calls he made to the family of the little girl that was killed in a go cart accident right before Christmas. I very much hope he stays on in some capacity with the school as we badly need people of his character around.

I have had with him that doesn't surprise me. He is a class act. He will be appreciated much more in the future than he is now.

I think through all the pain the last few years have brought us that we sometimes lose sight of that. I appreciate everything he has done for the program and hope that he and his family maintain a positive relationship with Mississippi State.

He has always been a class person and a great representative for the university. I'm glad he is able to go out with the dignity that he deserves for what he brought to MSU. He will be remembered as Sherrill is remembered. Not for his last few bad years, but for all the great things he did for the basketball program before then.

I think he deserves even more respect than Jackie, and I love Jackie. Stansbury never brought us to the depths of depravity that Sherrill did in his last couple years. I just hope we don't get the basketball equivalent of Croom.

You have to respect that, and the fact that he cares about Mississippi State, it's basketball program and it's fans. I am a Big Rick Stansbury Supporter today..
