Will your philosophy on freshman quarterback Tyler Russell be similar?

DM: I'm not going to throw Tyler Russell into a game for six snaps in the fourth quarter and say, 'OK, we burned your redshirt year that year.' That's not fair. If we feel he can play significant meaningful snaps and is ready to go, then we're going to do that. We're not going to play him just to be playing him.</p>

we have gone from people saying Russell will be the best QB we have when he gets on campus-

to

threads on what game do you think Russell will start-

to

Lee and Relf are battling, Russell is the clear number 3

to

maybe Russell will be redshirted afterall

And I know we got some good threads from 7-8-9 months ago with some great quotes

not consulted with Sly on this matter. I have a feeling that he would whole-heartedly disagree

and say that what you said 7-8-9 months ago was to just stir debate, but all along you new he would probably red-shirt this year anyway, but you are just know informing us of this ?

And on the Russell issue, I've said since the Meridian - South Panola game that he needs to redshirt if at all possible. I hope we'll be seeing him in maroon in 2013.

a couple of semi-succesful seasons, & a decent bowl, & allow him to shine in 2013 would be great

I wanted to go with Lee and Relf and try to RS Russell. I didnt think Russell would be ready for SEC football.

I was informed on here he might start against J-State, but for sure he would take over as QB this season.

The sentiment has changed around here since signing day, thats for sure- but reality is starting to settle in. As I said over and over, going through Spring practice would keep Lee and Relf ahead of Russell. Now Mullen has said it thats why they are ahead...

I know I can find many examples of me saying he should RS if at all possible

We will have to consult the archives to see what your position was 7-8-9 months ago

Russell isn't the answer. Granted maybe the best we have, but not the answer. Redshirt him and give him time to learn. It could also work out to where we get a C.Newton then another good recruit in two more years and then TR will never be heard of again.

"I fully expect Lee to start at QB for the first few games as they slowly work Russell in and get him ready for SEC defenses and the speed of the game. Then they will let Russell take over and just live with his mistakes. I'm guessing game 5-7 this takes place."

Yep, sounds like you were pushin' for the red shirt from the get go. I apologize.

I have agreed he should be redshirted, and I fully say that Coach has said he should be redshirted as well.

But you were predicting him getting mopup duty.

was not having a good Spring throwing the ball....I've said all along Relf is the key to Russell being redshirted, not Lee

about him RS'ing...there is basically no way we can do that...

My point is that you just cant throw him in for the Jackson State game because he has more potential. He has to go through the adjustment period before he is going to get the majority of snaps to lead this team. And most of your QB's that start now as true Freshman usually are going through Spring Practice with the team before their 1st season. Its actually very rare now for a QB to come in and earn the job in 3 weeks.

what he thought should happen. He's been saying he should redshirt for a while.

But he has been predicting that he will play also.

in what I want to happen, and what I think will actually take place.

I've wanted to RS him all along. But I didnt think we would be able to because Relf wouldnt be able to handle playing QB in the SEC. The fact that Relf has stepped up and is playing better gives us two QB's and therefore, no need to play Russell at this point.

I want to have sex with Natascha McElhone...what actually takes place is probably that she will continue to not have any idea as to who I am- big difference.

I'm glad to know that he will have some chance to redshirt if he's not going to be the starter

bc I went to MHS he probably wouldn't be very good this year. It would be a good move for our program if he does get to redshirt, because he will be a good SEC qb one day, hopefully an all SEC one, but we will have to wait and see on that one.
