Leaving is one thing, the way he did it was another. If he had left with decency his legacy would be much, much different.

Rod Fraud leaving the program with the way he left is terrible. Moving on to Michigan and Arizona proved he's not all that.

Did he discuss whether the chearleader and/or real estate agent rumors were true? I mean, he was cold busted cheating on his wife in AZ. And he definitely tried to get out of his buyout thru his agent putting out racist accusations

“The way he left.” People constantly say that. How did he leave that is different or unique? Boarding a plane at night? Did he take a dump on the WVU logo at midfield before leaving? Flip everybody the bird? What?

What was he supposed to do? He said countless times that he wanted to be here. Once it became obvious our AD wouldn’t step up, he left.

Are you really not familiar with the circumstances under which he left?

Well, he used Calvin McGee to set up the race card. He spent time he should have been preparing for Pitt and was interviewing with Michigan instead. He destroyed reams of records from his time here which affected transition. I can probably think of more, but I'm not bored enough.

Don't forget the $4 million.

I’m very familiar. I just think people intentionally twist reality to fit a narrative.

The reality is that he owed $4 million to WVU and in trying to get out of paying it he went on giant smear campaign against WVU, up to and including accusing it of racism. Pretty nasty stuff.

And he ended up having to pay the money because after all, he did owe it. (He got the U of Michigan to pay $2.5 M of it for him, which I'm sure didn't endear him to them.)

When is the last time someone tried to steal $4 M from you and went on a national smear campaign against you to get away with it?

You just publicly admitted you have no problem with people trying to steal.

in the real world, you always try to negotiate you're best exit strategy. It did prompt UM to pony up the cash instead. Mission accomplished.

You can't deny RR's skills at being innovative.

Arizona starting to look good under him and he had a great QB for his system.

We can see now that Michigan isn't an easy place to win big.

He is a good coach. I just read he might be an assistant for Terry Bowden? WTF...

He might have one more HC job left in him.

I mainly meant his use of the race card years in advance.

He's an egomaniac and prick, and many here say he sucks as a coach because he left, but he did produce a culture of winning and toughness while he was here that no one can deny.

Plus the five bowls in six years at football powerhouse Arizona, which included 3 wins with one of those losses coming in the Fiesta Bowl.

He's a POS nearly every metric, but you can't say that he isn't a competent football coach. Brady Hoke can thank him for the Sugar Bowl-winning roster.

Agree RR tried to smear WVU to get out of paying millions. I believe he intentionally threw the Pitt game too-- Too convenient a loss when WVU was doing great and in line for a championship.

But Mcghee? What exactly did he say that wasnt true? You accuse him of some bizarre reverse racism but he said what was and is true. WVU has never considered or more importantly hired a person of color to be head coach. That's not "playing a card", it's called stating fact. He felt he deserved an opportunity to try to be the coach, yet wasnt given the time of day. Certainly better qualified than who they hired.

Rod destroyed Michigan and they have yet to recover. Went to Arizona in a conference probably worse than Big East and became a .500 coach. 43-35 (24-30)

In a sworn deposition he named a man connected to the WVU fund raising organization that on a certain place, date and time he was told that he would NEVER be considered because he was black.

The fact is, that man did not go to the football office like Calvin stated. He went to his child’s Christmas play at her grade school (plenty of witnesses) and at the time he was supposed to of spoken to Mr. McGee, he was checking his bags at the Pittsburgh airport (security cameras can confirm) to fly to spend the holidays with family.

He lied. Any more BS you want to spout?

McGee made a statement that remains true to this day.

What you are claiming is an unsubstantiated allegation (another descriptionfor bull$h1t) about some other persons supposed timeline, but has nothing to do with the merit of what McGee stated he was told, or the fact WVU didn't consider him, or any other person of color at any time to be head coach of the football team.

He lied about the person, place and time. It was all confirmed by the WVU legal team and submitted back to the court. He made it up, swore under oath and lied.

You can sit there and try to paint WVU as racist all you want. Without proof, your a liar, just like McGee.

and as to WVU? Name the time in its football history WVU seriously considered and/or hired a person of color to be the football coach (or basketball coach, or baseball coach...).

There are FACTS and there are made up bs allegations to deflect from what we know is fact.

Look it up big guy. Larry Aschebrook was the guys name and when he confronted Rich Rod about it, he offered him a job at Michigan just to shut him up.

There were two African Americans on the list to replace RR. McGee was on it until he flew to Michigan with Rod. A few days later Pastilong spoke to McGee about it at a meeting to discuss bowl prep.

Look it up.

Where is McGhee a head coach at now? Oh that's right he's never been a HC. Could be he's not qualified.

You don't like WVU so much then go elsewhere. I hear Mini U is looking for a HC maybe he should try there. Mini U likes getting WVU scraps.

McGee simply gave his own opinion, and the evidence he offered appeared illegitimate.

asking you to state when WVU has evaluated or hired a person of color is neither racism nor hate.

I realize some of you are incredibly ignorant.

you are making up baseless bs- Lovkley was the only African American approached. He said they asked if he had interest the. Never made any other contact.

His only P5 success came from the legs of Pat White and Steve Slaton.
So it doesn't count then? Got it
People quote this same BS all the time to try and discredit the best coach in WVU football history. Somehow the seasons before Pat White are forgotten. The staff he assembled is forgotten. The recruits he brought in were forgotten like Owen. White was a DB pretty much only and Slaton was a 3 Star. Chris Henry was a 2 Star. Countless others. Never mind the exposure under Rich.

You can be butthurt that he left for Michigan because the AD was a moron that's fine.

However people sound super idiotic trying to argue he wasn't a great coach at WVU.

You didn’t look up the WVU associate’s name and see what the published reports stated?
I didn’t think so. That would prove that you were wrong about McGee. Like I said, published reports state that the AD asked him (McGee) while meeting with the staff for the bowl prep. That was 4 days after Rich was introduced as the UM head coach.

Rich certainly can stir up emotions in WVU fans. Even eons after he left and 3 coaching jobs later. Another who refuses to give Rich credit for WVU's success while he was the head coach is revealing THEIR jealous, anger and bitterness because Rich left for Michigan, which was his right. Not what came out of his mouth when he did, of course.

A good write up on what really happened between Magee and WVU.

Excerpt:

"According to Brown, who declined to identify the person involved in this incident, "Calvin was in discussions with this West Virginia University administrator, and Calvin kind of politely asked him, 'Do you think I have a shot [at becoming the next Mountaineers head coach]?' The administrator said, 'No you don't,' and pointed to his skin. That's why Calvin got on the plane."

and on the interview that wasn't?

Magee on Friday stood by his account, adding "When you're going through the situation I was going through that week, you remember everything."

As Magee remembered it Pastilong came to his door Dec. 21. "I actually thought this was the call, 'Hey, they're actually going to talk to me,'" Magee recalled.

As Magee relates the conversation, Pastilong started to talk about how the Black Coaches director asked him why no minority candidates were being interviewed.

"I told him, 'I wondered the same thing.' ... [Pastilong] said, 'At this point, I wouldn't want you do to anything that wouldn't mean much.'

"And I told Eddie, 'At this point, Eddie, you're right, I don't want to be part of a meaningless interview.' Because he let me know that's what it would be.

"I told him not to insult me or embarrass me. And I told him that [now] it was my every intention to go to Michigan. It felt like they were trying to appease the BCA."
