Another name has emerged in the Mississippi State University presidential search - and it's one that makes sense.

Millsaps president Dr. Frances Lucas, a Mississippi State alum and a very talented higher education administrator, is rumored to be under consideration for the post. The presidential search committee has culled the list of applicants down to five.

Dr. Frances Lucas is the daughter of Dr. Aubrey Lucas, the longtime president of USM and a highly respected higher education administrator. But Dr. Frances Lucas has carved out her own stellar reputuation and is well out of her famous father's shadow.

An MSU alum, proven university administrator - she'd focus on research and academics and Byrne would run the athletic department.

I did meet her father a few times when my brother was at USM. If she's anything like him at all, she'd be a great hire.

for his shoving LT out of the way so Byrne could go get Cohen. If he turns into droopy dog at this point, so what. That was HUGE.

I heard that it was Watson, Keenum, and three others, whom two of the three were women. Maybe Sid heard the same thing about the women being finalist and is just guessing. I think Frances Lucas name was floated when we hired Foglesong as well.

She once said in a staff meeting that she was blaming the lack of Millsaps Endowment funds on the evil Bush administration causing their investments to lose money because of the stock market after 9/11.

The important thing isn't her opinion of our President. The big thing is that it sounds like she'll blame people besides herself when fundraising goes to ****.

Endowments are down at Millsaps because no one likes her. The staff doesn't like her, the students do not like, and the alumni do not like. I'm sure some do but for the most part she is not well received on campus. I was there in my sophomore year when she arrived. She immediately brought in a bunch of her puppets most of whom were homosexual. She immediately started trying to do away with the fraternities though she has been only successful at getting the Kappa Sigs kicked off but did not go about it in a legal fashion. She is a poor fundraiser because of the way she runs the college. They had a 10 year plan to build some new buildings on campus and renovate several others, create a new quad common area, and other campus improvements. It's going on year 6 and the funds aren't even close to being raised. Also at one point a year or two ago the faculty almost went on strike. My first year with Dr. Harmen there he would speak to every student he passed. I stood in line next to Dr. Lucas on more than one occasion and would never speak when I said a simple hello. So as far as her being a "great" option I would have to disagree. I quit giving after I spoke with faculty members that were upset with her.
