De-emphasize winning. Tell the fans to quit caring so much about wins and losses. Tell the schools/boosters to quit paying coaches so much money to win. Tell the coaches it doesn't really matter how much you win, you can keep your job as long as you do good by the student athlete. Oh, and last but certainly not least, tell the media to lay off coaches for not winning enough. Winning, after all, is secondary according to the media members....well, when they want it to be at least. Tell coaches you'll have a party for them and give them an extension and a trophy for being a good citizen even if they go 3-9.

But wait, that's never going to happen.

Randy Shannon is a good example. He went to Miami with a goal of cleaning up the program. I believe I heard that he only had one player arrested during his tenure and the graduation rate for the entire program was 3rd in the country behind only Army and Navy. Yet, at the end of this past season, he got fired. Why? Because he didn't win enough.

That's the way it is everywhere. Running a clean program, helping boys become men, being honest and forthright to players, none of that REALLY matters if you don't win.

Winning is all that matters. Fans, media, even coaches and administrations pretend to care about the other good stuff, but coaches aren't paid for that. They're paid to win. I get really tired of everyone talking out of both sides of their mouth. If you really care about that stuff, then start a bunch of threads about how players are doing in school, and be sure not to complain when they take one on the chin on Saturday.

"Part of the problem is rooted in the one-year cap on scholarships,"
Huma says. If we're able to get that cap eliminated, then schools won't
have the flexibility to oversign and run players off. Now, players can
basically get fired for any reason."

"This is a business. They are going to treat you like an employee. Keep
that in mind, when they're telling you all these beautiful stories
about the way it's going to be. Because at the end of the day if they
want to take the scholarship away, there's basically nothing you can do
about it. Have that kind of information in mind, so you can make a more
informed decision."

enfore the rule. It's easy, if you sign more than 28 you are givena 15 scholarhship reduction over 3 years and a two year bowl ban, the latter which would not impact you guys but it would send a message.

This should be one of the easiest rules to enforce.

The rule specifically says you can only sign 28 players between signing day and May 1st. perhaps that will get changed, but its not like we aren't or cannot take advantage of the same thing...

Because I'm not sure if even the newest posters on here are ready to hear what Slive and the rest of the boys in Birmingham have to say about State sidestepping the 'reporting process.' <div>
</div><div>ETA: Disregard the above. I just now found out that the NCAA had decided to take advantage of the oversigning rule this year. I don't keep up with $@%**#* recruiting, so I don't really give a ****.</div>

Nobody has broken the 28 rule since it was put in place. People have broken the spirit of the rule plenty, and it's only been 2 years, but the loophole exists and people are going to take advantage.

Like I said in the previous thread, if you're going to have your emphasis be all about winning, and let's face it, that's what it is everywhere, or at least 90% of the emphasis, then you have to deal with people and players getting stepped on. It's going to happen to someone, because their well-being is not near the top of the list of what is emphasized.

oversigning? I think we can comfortably dare Slive to call out State on overstepping the SEC office when they sweep an attempt to gain major improper benifits under the rug. The national media would massacre him and the SEC office over any attempt to do that and there would be no way he would retain his seat at the head of the SEC table. Hell even now if they tried some ******** on State while they sat back and do nothing on Newton's eligibility status they would get crucified. <div>
</div><div>Knowing about the rule or not... that comparison is stupid.</div>
