No more Bad to the Bone?

<font face="georgia, palatino" size="2">Coach Dan Mullen had said he wanted today's scrimmage to be a dress rehearsal of sorts for State's first game, which comes in two weeks against Jackson State. He got that, it seemed: Cheerleaders and/or pom squad members were present at the start<span style="font-weight: bold;">, State played its entrance video and ran out onto the field from the locker room to the sound of "Hail State."</span> Soon after, the college football's second-largest high definition video screen was darkened, and the scrimmage started.

Under our new leadership, this has GOT to get done. The SNL skit HAS to be shown on the jumbotron. If not we are walking away from a huge opportunity. Ninja, if you're perusing the board, please see that this gets done. Oh and a few more recent highlights for the reel would go a long way too. Last but not least, unveil that 1941 National Championship banner and you'll be golden.

when that skit first aired i taped it and took it over to coach sherrill's house and showed it to him. he of course had no idea who the blue oyster cult was, who christopher walken was, or who will ferrel was. nevertheless he thought the skit was funny and i convinced him that if he was able to get permission to play it, the fans would go nuts. of course larry didnt like it and thats the rest of the story.

here's to hoping byrne thinks differently</p>

We should unveil the '41 banner against Bama, no doubt. Here's another idea about pregame. How about modifying the highlight film to match our opponent that day/ night. So for instance when Florida rolls into town, the highlight reel focuses on our recent wins vs. Florida. We see Shane Mathews struggling mightily. We see Dicenzo's long TD run, the 3rd and 57 sequence and Norwood's winning TD run. When Bama comes in, we show the 1980 game, JJ stomping a mudhole in them in the 90's, and JPW throwing the TD pass to Anthony Johnson. I would rather see those than highlights of Rockey beating Memphis. I think it would get the crowd more jacked up and also show the recruits sitting in the stands that we kicked a little @ss just a few years back. Thoughts?

I asked Mullen why they wouldn't put that on the board when it was a intense part of the game. He said he would love to, but that the SEC wouldn't allow it due to the word "Cowbell". He said that they looked into it and ran it by the league office and it was shot down.

He did say that they would really love to get in touch with Walken to have him do a bit that would basically say the same thing but just not cowbell. Maybe you would just see "I got a Fever!". He wants to know if anyone has access to getting in touch with Walken to do this. If anybody does, get in touch with the University.

the skit and when it came time for "cowbell" it was muted at that point?? Then it would be left up for the entire stadium to scream "COWBELL" in it's place. I think that would be better anyway.

my editing idea: instead of muting it, flash a graphic on the screen that says "Censored by the SEC"...maybe with the text in a black banner over Walken's mouth...

but he feels that they need some type of clearance to do so. And they have definately looked into it.

It's licensed to SNL and they are owned by NBC, whose owned by GE, so it gets a little complicated. If anybody has any contacts or ideas, like I said, get ahold of the athletic dept.
