Frost presser

If you have not watched his press conference I encourage you to do so. He was not as depressed as I thought he would be. I think he views the loss as a real, true turning point and a wake up call that the players may listen to. He said he told his players that this was the lowest point that they would be and to learn from it (not sure that is true.... OSU is still on the schedule). But it was almost as if he expected this beat down and was kind of relieved it was over. He even said Thursday's practice was not good at all so he was worried about the game.

But to me that was not the most interesting point. He said the kids were competing hard. He thought they were competing to the best of their ability. He then said there were lots of things to fix across the board (coach speak)... things like execution and so on. But he then said we were getting out physicaled at the lines and "pushed around" and that "those types of things are a lot harder to fix". He then started talking about the future. Better recruiting. The walk on program. Strength and conditioning. Nutrition. And he said we are not "yet" at the level where we can compete with teams like Michigan. He said he wasn't throwing the current players under the bus and he still thought they could win games this year, but it is clear he thinks we lack talent. It is clear he thinks that things are only going to get better when we have better players.

I think that nails it. What he was essentially saying is what many of us have been saying since last year: this roster is devoid of the kind of across the board talent you need to compete at this level.

He told us this was going to happen. No one listened including me. “This will get worse before it gets better”. Hopefully he’s right about this being to low point too.

I just wish he hadn’t commented on Purdue being winnable. They looked good today.

Some people just need to learn coach speak. You don’t walk into a new job and just say “you know, you are all sh— and I’m here to fix it.” Juat like you don’t say “we are sh— and going to get stomped next week.” He walks a fine line and we have to understand that.

I wasn't as big of a fan of the press conference, although I only heard it and couldn't watch.

That part that bothered me most was how he said this was the bottom. I sort of thought he set himself up, because things can get worse.

Some of the defeatist talk didn't sit well either, but I got the impression that the coaches are trying to let the guys solve it themselves, and while I like that strategy if there is good leadership on the team, I am not sure it works as well with a 1st year team.

There probably needs to be a few fights in the locker room to be honest.

When frost said we hit bottom, I don’t think he was saying we won’t lose this badly again. I think all the luster and shine was stripped off today. The team felt like they gave away the first 2 games (which they did) and thought they were better. Today showed them, mercilessly, how bad they are. It’s all stripped bare. They know, the rest of the way, if they are going to win any games, they will have to work their butts off. Frost said Thursday’s practice was bad? They didn’t work their butts off. Moving forward, they will work their butts off, or they will ride the bench, IMO.

Based upon his pre-season comments that were very positive, Frost is no doubt realizing that this team is this horrible, which is surprising to me. Either he was just blowing smoke (I doubt it), or he completely misjudged this team and its progress.

I wonder if Tre Neal regrets transferring? Will he even get drafted after this year?

Not a chance at getting drafted. Had he stayed at UCF, wouldn't have been drafted either. Too many missed assignments. He's a great kid but Richie Grant, the sophomore kid who beat him out has 2 INTs and 1 forced fumble in three games. He's crushing it.

Two things, it’s hard to know how good you really are until you play a few games against other teams. Second, he he has to be careful how to say things. Kinda like the B10 championship game talk, he has to say that we’re going to be in it. If he doesn’t think that way, none of the players will.

True enough. That's a brutally tough business on what he has to speak of as a HC. Especially when dealing with the media (God help SF). A cfb HC has to be a leader, be sharp as a razor "and" be a politician.

It's a rough row to hoe.

SF has endless courage and spoke the simple truth. They are indeed extremely "hard to fix" when our linemen are always getting pushed around (like they have for many years). I seriously doubt there's any cfb HC alive that can win frequently with inept linemen. That's what we've had in spades for a long, long time now.

I think we have the skilled players to play with anybody outside of the top 10. But with linemen who can't block anybody SF's hands are tied. The best schemes in the world won't overcome that problem.

He knows that quite well. He also knows completely re-building a OLine is a long, tough row to hoe.

Never a truer statement. The defense going up against true freshman and walkons and worse. Both lines were absolutely dominated today...so they go up against each other and look good. Having a true freshman made that game impossible to win, having upperclassman that are little better made it unwatchable. There are consequences for poor recruiting and misfits. Logically this was going to be a tough year, and we knew frost struggled in year one at UCF and he went through the same kind of struggle with weak minds at UCF. We may have an extra bottom out year though...this might be a 1 or 2 win year.

Agreed! It will always start with the OL. We don't have the football savvy road graters, three deep, like we used to have. It will take three to four recruiting cycles to get close.

If there ever is a MUST WIN game, it’s next week. We win that, we’re still playing for a bowl. If we lose, we’re headed for a 1 or 2 win season.

Michigan isn't that good. It's pretty sad we can't even avoid getting blown out by them. I didn't like how he was putting this on the players. These players weren't even this bad last year. This is 100% on the coaching.

This is about as bad of a loss this program has ever had and Michigan isn't even the best team left on our schedule. Ohio State might not let up like Michigan did. They could have put up 70 on us.

That's why they need to go full speed. Every highlight I saw of them in fall camp, they were going half speed, if that. They're playing like a team that's used to going half speed. Also turn the damn music off in practice. Our players need to focus on their assignments and playing disciplined.

A). I watched the presser and he did not put it on the players.

B). They were absolutely this bad last year. See Minnesota

Who do you see us beating to get to 6 wins. Purdue, NW, Minn, Illinois, Iowa are very iffy. Then Wisc, Ohio St, Mich St, are pretty will automatic losses. We need to get 6 of those 8. I just don't see how that is possible with how bad this team is. Absolute best case is maybe 4 wins.

I would switch Iowa and Michigan St in your lists, and you are forgetting B-C. So have to win all of the lower level games or pull off humongous upset to make bowl, which is not likely - but not completely impossible. I think 4 is more likely ceiling as well.

Did you forget the Minny game last year, I know it seems like we are worse today, but we are still a better team than we were by the end of last year imo.

Yeah but that's when most of our team had given up on the season already. There's no reason our players should be giving up now at this point in the season.
