Ouch! FSU's board chairman clearly states the GOR will not stop them from leaving. Publicly. That is a serious line in the sand. It's ON in that league. It's so petty for the Acc to try and keep schools in their league that don't want to be.
Agree. You don't come out with those type of strong comments if you are only bluffing. They burned a lot of bridges/relationships/trust today with their comments.I can tell you first hand that UNC has been in ongoing discussions at the board level of getting out of the GOR. Whether that gets done or not, there is no question now. It's going to get challenged.
FSU just gave a huge middle finger to the entire Acc conference. Shocking to be so public but that tells you that relationship is over. They are going somewhere as fast as they can.
They can get out any time they want. Just gonna cost them 300 million to do it
Show me a GOR that has been broken before and I might agree. If Texas and Oklahoma couldn't get out of theirs, no one is. The remaining ACC schools are not going to take anything less than the $120 mil. exit fee and whatever FSU makes in media rights till 2036 at their next stop. This is a lot of huff and puffing to quell the masses. You really think the remaining ACC schools are going to settle for $300 mil when they can get close to a billion at FSU's expense?I can tell you first hand that UNC has been in ongoing discussions at the board level of getting out of the GOR. Texas and OU had to wait until the Big 12's GOR ran out. You don't think they investigated every single way possible to get out early? They tried and found out these things are all written in the same language and airtight. As always, we will see. FSU sure seems to think they have a case of getting out without the penalty.
These GOR's are a new thing. They haven't really been challenged before. I can't comment on the Texas/OU situation but they are playing in the SEC next season if they *only paid $50MM then it was a big win for them.
So Texas and Oklahoma hired backwater Red River bayou attorneys?Peter Collins is already said that they have a good hand on the GOR, and they have the high-powered New York attorneys now on the case
I’m not privy to a Texas, and Oklahoma did or did not doSo Texas and Oklahoma hired backwater Red River bayou attorneys?
We dominated from 1992-early 2000’s, then had a nice 5 year run from 2012-2017If FSU couldn't dominate the ACC they sure won't dominate the SEC. Seminole fans can get used to a lot of 7-5 and 8-4 seasons, or worse.
Clemson has dominated the ACC for a decade, not FSU. 2014 was a decade ago.We dominated from 1992-early 2000’s, then had a nice 5 year run from 2012-2017
3 Heismans
3 nattys
6 championship game appearances
15 Acc titles in 30 years
14 straight top 5 finishers
2nd winningest coach of all time
Iconic brand
If that’s not dominating, I don’t know what is
So we’re going to ignore the first 22 years and simply focus on the last 10? Seems normalClemson has dominated the ACC for a decade, not FSU. 2014 was a decade ago.
2022: 10 - 3, 2nd place
2021: 5 - 7
2020: 3 - 6
2019: 6 - 7
2018: 5 - 7
2017: 7 - 6
2016: 10 - 3, 3rd place
2015: 10 - 3, 2nd place
2014: 13 - 1
Different situations. Texas and Oklahoma didn't have any real incentive to fight it. Easier to wait the extra year or two and not run the risk of losing in court / incur lots of legal expenses. The ACC's GOR runs 13 more years. You can't wait it outShow me a GOR that has been broken before and I might agree. If Texas and Oklahoma couldn't get out of theirs, no one is. Cali gets it.FSU is looking at this long term.
Winning the Acc will be akin to Cincy dominating the AAC. It's a cool story, but you aren't playing with the big boys.
It's a simple decision. Being with the big boys making $30-$40MM more a year than you make now is better than receiving less money playing the JV teams, even though you have a better chance of beating them. It's exactly how we felt in the Big East, and we never even won that.
Right or wrong, FSU has higher aspirations. I applaud them for that.

Yes. 20 years ago is not relevant to the FSU of today that would be playing in the SEC.So we’re going to ignore the first 22 years and simply focus on the last 10? Seems normal
I am not up on all this GOR stuff. What happens if 4 or 5 schools pull the plug on the ACC. Does it take out the GOR.
They won a natty in 2013, 10 years agoYes. 20 years ago is not relevant to the FSU of today that would be playing in the SEC.
How many ACC championships has Clemson won (6), how many National Championships (2) and how many visits to the NC game since 2013 (4)? But no, you're right FSU has dominated. They won a natty in 2013, 10 years ago
Playoffs in 2014
3rd in country in 2017
Finished last year top 15
Congrats to Clemson, they capitalized getting a once in a generational, Coach in Dabo, and winning while FSU was down
Meanwhile, FSU had the Jimbo Fisher debacle, coupled with the Willie Taggart fiasco, which combined set them back a minimum of five years
Context is always key
I’d tell them FU. What are they gonna do, send some debt collectors after them? They can get out any time they want. Just gonna cost them 300 million to do it
Let me slow things down for you a bitHow many ACC championships has Clemson won (6), how many National Championships (2) and how many visits to the NC game since 2013 (4)? But no, you're right FSU has dominated.
Cmon . Seems like a liberal mentality . It’s petty to honor a contract ?Ouch! FSU's board chairman clearly states the GOR will not stop them from leaving. Publicly. That is a serious line in the sand. It's ON in that league. It's so petty for the Acc to try and keep schools in their league that don't want to be.
Lol yes you're right. FSU has dominated even though Clemson has won much more over the last 10 years. Thanks for clearing that up. Strange definition of dominated when another team has done a lot better.Let me slow things down for you a bit
FSU has not been in the conference for 100 years
They’ve been in for 30, and won roughly half of the league championships
Taking a 10 your context is fine, but to ignore the first 20 is nonsensical
Furthermore, we will start the year at a minimum in the top 10, with opening week ratings that are going to be through the roof, with a Heisman trophy containing quarterback, they likely top 15 traffic on the defense, I thought, five overall defense in college football, and the top, and I’ll program in the league
So yes, via your strawman argument, Clemson has domibated for the past eight years.
In case you missed it, They were dog **** before that when FSU got in the league and even when FSU struggles in early 2000s, and when Bobby had pretty much checked out and hired Jeff to the nepotism, they were still pedestrian at best
One could argue that they’ve only been good while FSU has been down, battling internal problems
But to win roughly half of the championships in 30 years, coupled with all the other accolades, to say they havent dominated… at best, that’s a stretch
Serious question, did you watch the team last year?Lol yes you're right. FSU has dominated even though Clemson has won much more over the last 10 years. Thanks for clearing that up. Strange definition of dominated when another team has done a lot better.
Let me slow things down a little for you. The FSU that would jump to the SEC is the FSU of today, not 2001, not the 90s, not the Bobby Bowden years.
I'll leave the prognostication to you FSUAl. I wait until I see actual results on the field.Serious question, did you watch the team last year?
Did you watch the off-season acquisitions, the NIL, fundraising, the recruiting, the job in Norvell is doing?
If you don’t think they’re going to be a powerhouse moving forward, then you’re not paying attention Albert
GotchaI'll leave the prognostication to you FSUAl. I wait until I see actual results on the field.
Wouldn’t the full value of FSU’s commitment to the ACC, if the GOR was ironclad, be $480 million if they left in two seasons? That's the best part in all of this. We will see how much they really get out for. It ain't going to be $300MM this I can guarantee.
